USPS screwup

Jump to solution

I strive to ensure every order is shipped within the specified time window I chose. I shipped an order, provided a tracking number and the goods were delivered.  Etsy says I didn’t ship.  USPS says order is still in pre transit.  What gives? How do I get this corrected for my stats?

@MXSSF: Are you sure that the tracking number is correct?  It is very unusual for a package to have never been scanned in its journey - if USPS is saying pre-transit how do you know the package was delivered? Usually a day or two after the package has been scanned the CSV file correctly shows tracking and shipment status and Star Seller stats auto update.

@BagmakerSupply

Like I said I had almost the same thing happen--altho my did get the initial scan--my  one man post office is excellent about scanning. However--it never got a scan after that and  the PO still considers it missing--even tho it has been delivered.

The short answer is==you can't.

I had a similar happen a couple weeks ago--except mine got the first scan as accepted by the PO--after that nothing. IT was like it went into a black hole. Never scanned again. I even filed a missing mail report and the PO told me it could not be found.  However--my buyer  messaged me to say she received it!

Since it has already been delivered it is probably too late to even file the missing mail report.  So the "short answer" still applies.

Are you tracking directly at USPS.com?     Sometimes that is more accurate and up to date than Etsy's import version.    If it's correct on their side, Etsy should update eventually - at least that's what's happened for me in the past few weeks as the holiday crunch has been in effect.

Are you using Etsy labels or Pirateship that enter tracking in directly?  If hand entering maybe an error?

Did you drop the package off or did you wait for a receipt or take it to the kiosk to scan in yourself?  I use the kiosk to get my packages entered.

It's not just having the tracking number.  The item has to be accepted by USPS and be in -transit.

If your post office is not scanning or is short staffed that could be the reason.

There is nothing to be done.  This will fade as time passes.  The buyer has the item and that is the most important thing.

I am having the same problem! USPS picked up my envelope on Wednesday, and the tracking label still shows "pre-transit" two days later on the USPS site. Worried this will affect my stats. Anyone get resolution to this issue?

@JuJusRareBirdJewelry: Then you need to take it up with the carrier who picked up your package and did not scan it as "picked up". As long as you entered a valid tracking number the package should eventually be scanned and Etsy will pick it up.

Thanks. I now have confirmation from the customer that they have received the package, and they've sent me a photo of the envelope. The USPS tracking never showed up, and Etsy still shows the package in "pre-transit." I have submitted a help request with USPS, but this is infuriating given that it will no doubt mess up our shipping stats.

@JuJusRareBirdJewelry: That a First Class Package (now Ground Advantage) never gets scanned during its entire trip is very very unusual unless the bar code printed so badly that it is unreadable by the scanning equipment. Since you have a photo of the package, have you confirmed that the tracking number was correctly entered on the actual order?

@JuJusRareBirdJewelry -I would call the PO at the receiving/delivery end...not the 800 USPS number, google for the actual local phone number. Most are available along with street address of the branch. Then ask them to check the GPS coordinates for the tracking number of the package. Once they see the coordinates, they should be able to mark it delivered.

It can be a hassle depending on size of Post office, but I have done it successfully several times.

I’ve been speaking with the manager of my post office because 3 out of 10 of my packages have gone awol over the last four weeks. Two were ground advantage. I currently have one that was supposed to be priority express, shipped last Monday for next day delivery and for a week now tracking simply says it left a NY distribution center…that’s it. No further movement. I’ve filed an inquiry, but, of course, it’s yielded no results. I’ve tried to maintain contact with the buyer, but am not receiving any response. I’ve already refunded her shipping and am now waiting to hear back from her as to how she’d like to proceed.

It’s my understanding that USPS very recently changed procedures which has resulted in confusion and an increase in delays and lost packages. If one PO employee screws up and doesn’t follow these new procedures (whether through forgetfulness or lack of understanding or supervision), a package is subject to severe delays, if not loss. I’m just waiting to open FB one of these days and see one of my packages as part of a lot that some influencer bought and unwrapped as part of their schtick.

@DivineCrossings

USPS used to have an auction site where they sold "lost" and "damaged" packages. I shipped a dog kennel and the door was broken on arrival. We filed a claim and they did pay out. Later I saw that kennel or sale on  the auction site. And yes, I KNOW it was the same kennel as the door was broken exactly the same and it was  PURPLE
