Two accounts same address

I have sold on Etsy and now my sister wants to register a shop on Etsy too. Can I ask if having two accounts with the same address affects the registration process? If one account is suspended, will it affect the other account?

Yes, both shops are connected by the IP address, so if one shop gets suspended, most likely so will the other.  As long as you both follow the rules, sell what is allowed (handmade by you, vintage over 20 years old and craft supplies) and make sure your financial info is kept in good standing, there should be no problem.

Along with the IP address I have a feeling Etsy look at things like the same billing address etc. to understand whether sellers are linked to each other.

In cases where an account is suspended for no apparent reason, such as during the first sale, my account will also be affected if it's connected to the same IP address, right?

@Pandadesignshop9 Unless someone responds here who has a very recent experience with a housemate/partner/relative setting up a shop then we're going to be guessing.

My guess is that the automated temporary suspensions for things like ID checks might not trigger related shops to be suspended. 

You could contact Etsy Support and ask that specific question - that would at least create a record of you checking up on it before hand.

Just have different email addreses. Unless you work together what one does shouldn't affect the other. I know inferior Etsy cometitors like eBay hire the worst employees who don't give a rat's behind, but Etsy employees are professional and classy. I can't imagne you'd have any issues based on my experience here.

@EganStore each shop must have a separate email address but can share the same physical/billing address and bank accounts. This is regardless of the shop owners being the same person or just in the same household.

Etsy will consider shops that share IP addresses as 'linked' for the same reason - in the same household could also mean the same person. Etsy does give a rat's and will close 'linked' shops even if they are owned by different people. Break the rules enough times and you don't get to sell here ... supposedly.

I've always wondered about the same IP address thing ... I used satellite network for years and years and my IP address kept changing. Now I'm using cell internet and my IP address shows other locations from where I actually am.

Also I've heard about other family members in the forums having their own stores. Just the other day someone posted about her husband's store being suspended. She made no mention on the impact to her store.

@GlassyFields In the past Etsy admin have specified that IP addresses alone aren't used to determine if one shop is related to another, however they do look at that along with many other things.

There used to be rules that could be easily found stating that people who shared things like bank accounts (e.g. a married couple) had to disclose the connected shops in their profiles but I'm not sure if that sort of information still applies or where to find it.

Etsy does have criteria for "linking" accounts,

but it's not IP address,

many countries in the world, including UK, have dynamic IP addressing, so if they only used that, if 1 shop in the UK was shut, the domino affect of linking, would have all of us shut!

I've always had dynamic IP addresses at home - probably because I've always used satellite or cell internet - the only options available to me in my rural area.
