I no longer have access to the phone number I originally registered my shop with. And because of that I can no longer change my phone number or turn off 2fa because it sends a verification code to my old number. Fortunately I had kept the backup list of codes and have been using them since. I am now running out of codes.

The Etsy documentation (https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115015569567-How-to-Make-Your-Account-More-Secure) points to the Account settings > Security tab where you can "regenerate" a new list of codes. Unfortunately there is no such option. There is no "regenerate" button.

It seems like the "regenerate" button has been removed as I seem to remember it being there before.

MugginsUK can you use one of your remaining backup codes you previously downloaded as the code needed to turn off 2fa? When you set up 2fa again you then have to enter the phone number so can put your new number and you’ll get a new set of backup codes.

I agree there used to be an option to regenerate codes, but I guess that was less secure as a hacker who had got into the account could then use the regenerated list to switch off and divert to their number, unless you had to 2fa for that to work - I never tried so can’t say.

I haven't been able to test this solution as the day before I saw it I used up my last backup code. And was locked out. But it does sound right!

I contacted Etsy support about being locked out and they got back to me pretty quickly - so it looks like they've lifted their game a bit. But the verification questions they ask you are questions that are difficult to answer if you are locked out of your account - so catch 22 again. Fortunately I was able to scrape through after a couple of tries.

This is not true I have tried using several of the back up codes to turn off the 2FA and each one says incorrect token, and I am not getting any codes sent to my authenticator app to use either.

The codes I received are 9 digits, now they need to be 6.  I have no other back-up codes.  So why did this change and how do I get new back-up codes?  Etsy are very slow to help me and I am logged out of one of my stores.

I'm glad you managed to get back into your account. I am in favour of more security rather than less, but it is always at the back of my mind what happens if you do get locked out because your tech gets lost or damaged. I'd probably be struggling with their security questions too.
