Hello,
I started a new shop (not this one) so that I can separate the art items from my other items since they are not even similar at all. I was able to setup the account for the most part and am adding items. I turned on 2-step authentication with codes and it's been a major hassle. I now have a list of codes I can use but after trying it for awhile, I'd like to turn the 2-step authentication via code off.
I went to Settings....Security....and try to turn it off with the toggle. But then it asks for a code....and the code I just entered from the list won't work or a new code doesn't work either. (Says wrong key entered) .
Where /how do I get an authentication code to turn this feature OFF for my new shop??? I would like to change to a text message authentication but I have to find a way to turn of the "from a list of codes" first.
Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestion about how to turning 2-step authentication off.
However, the problem is not solved in the article: it tells you HOW to get to the toggle, but not the solution to the actual problem .... which is WHAT KIND OF CODE to enter WHEN you click on the toggle.
Turns out you CANNOT use an Etsy generated temporary code here, you must have a code from the Authentication program. The issue was I had two such programs on my phone, ... and was selecting the wrong one....thus it didn't recognize my Etsy account.
Once I selected the correct authenticator program it generated the code I code use to turn the authentication off.

Re: Turn off 2-2step Authentication
you should have had 10 codes on the original list,
you can only use the codes once, so you need one you haven't used before
you can also re-generate the list of codes

Re: Turn off 2-2step Authentication
You can't use the Etsy codes to turn off the feature; those are only good for logging in.
You need to get a code from the actual Authentication app. I have a longer explanation to this in my updated post.

Re: Turn off 2-2step Authentication
UGH having this issue. I never got a list with back up codes, I don't have Etsy on either authenticator app. Is there a way to get a key or QR code?

Re: Turn off 2-2step Authentication
the list was shown on the screen, when you set it up,
not sure if there was a download option, I screenshotted it and saved it
You will have to contact etsy and go through e-mail authentication, if you can't do it any other way, it will take a few days

Re: Turn off 2-2step Authentication
The thing to bear in mind with two step verification its supposed to be designed as extra account security so it's unlikely you will be able to turn it off, hopefully Etsy support will be able to generate some authentication new codes if this will solve it. It possible sounds like it wasn't designed by Etsy but bought of the shelf for use and that might explain why it got confused with the other programme on your phone which uses the same authentication. Etsy may have to go to the third party who built the authenticator so it may take awhile to resolve. Hope it all goes to plan for you
