Viewed on the Etsy Buyer App, all my items are shipping from Michigan. I'm in Australia - The bulk of my customers are Australian because they can get their orders quickly - They will not buy if Etsy tells them it is coming from Michigan! Etsy, this is a real problem!
A number of Australian sellers have been discussing this Etsy app issue in this thread: https://community.etsy.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Australian-Sellers-Serious-Bug-with-your-Location-Man...
The Etsy app seems to be picking up the shipping profile postcode and matching it to US zip codes starting with the same four numbers.
One workaround seems to be to add two zeroes to the front of the postcode but whether that then causes issues once Etsy fixes it is unclear.
I think I've managed to fix mine by changing my postcode to a nearby suburb.
If you can please report it directly to Etsy Support. The more reports they get the more likely the fix will be applied soon.
@givemeacrown I checked yours. Perhaps the change of postcode works for you because you only ship within Australia? On the big thread, some shops that only sell in Australia still had the US location but said 'only ships to Australia from XYZ'. Part of the problem is the issue and subsequent work-arounds aren't consistent. Why can you just change to another valid Australian postcode and it works but it doesn't for me? Very frustrating!
@AnniebelloPaper Someone pointed out that my actual 2792 postcode matches the start of the North Carolina zip code that was being displayed on my listings until I made the change.
My guess is that the 2799 postcode that I switched it to doesn't match the start of any US zip codes but I haven't checked that for certain.
@givemeacrown I have changed my postcode here in Australia on my listings by adding 00 in front of my postcode. Can you please check if my shop profile on the ap to see if it has changed back from "Michigan" to Australia. My actual Postcode is 4870 (Michigan post codes also starts with 48 - I checked). Etsy are really stuffing this up and perhaps that is why I have had no sales from the US in weeks.
@bobsiDi I just checked a couple of your listings ... delivers worldwide from Australia. The workaround works but I can imagine that if/when Etsy fixes this, it might cause more problems. Need to be ready to change it all back asap when the fix eventually arrives.
@CostumePatternTrim absolutely report to Etsy if you can. There are so many problems right now, it's hard to get help. I changed the postcode on one listing by adding the 2 zeroes to the front. Changing to a postcode close to me doesn't seem to work ... it's the 6's that are the problem I think. This is what German sellers are doing. It shouldn't work because it's not a recognised Australian postcode. I've also added wordage to the top of the descriptions of all my physical items, alerting buyers to the problem. It's only on the orange buyers' app. On webviews and the new blue sellers' app, your shipping location will be shown correctly. Etsy tech staff are supposedly working on it. There's been no updates on the forum posts or to me and other sellers via our help tickets. If we don't get it sorted today, it's going to be a sad sale-free weekend for a lot of sellers.
@AnniebelloPaper I spoke to Chat- So hard to get through to them that it is on the mobile app - They kept looking at their desktop & saying everything was ok. In the end they wanted me to send a screenshot from my ipad. Don't they have a mobile at their end they can check? I don't get it!!
@CostumePatternTrim in the big thread a few days ago, a seller in another country that is not affected by this issue saw my listings with the correct shipping location so it's possible the techs in the US might not see it on their mobiles. If you can, send them the screenshot. Apparently it's 9 out of 10 Australian sellers that have this issue. With the workaround now being used by so many, it's not likely Etsy will see it as a huge problem ... until that work around starts impacting on the other stuff they are tinkering with. It's a nightmare!
@AnniebelloPaper @CostumePatternTrim the only responses I have received in regard to this have been from Etsy staff looking at my shop on a desktop (they included screenshots). It takes a lot of repetition to drill in to whomever I've spoken to at Etsy that this is occurring on the orange app. It's like everyone's hearing it for the first time. On repeat.
@AnniebelloPaper I popped the 00 onto my 6050 postcode and applied it to all listings. Are you able to please check that it shows I'm shipping from Australia when you look at it, when you get a sec?
@ApogeeVintage I checked a couple of your listings. They show delivers worldwide from Australia.
My concern with changing the postcodes is if this ever gets fixed, it will create more problems. It shouldn't work at all because that's not a recognised Australian postcode.
edited to add ... I've not received any updates on if/when this problem is getting fixed, so I've reluctantly changed my profile to the extra 00's one for all my physical items.
Yes, I checked a few of yours & they all say Australia ...
I am also in Cairns and have had no problems.
@bobsiDi you're shipping from Michigan on the orange buyers' app ... yep, you've got the problem too.
Hate to tell you bobsiDi but on the Etsy Mobile App your listings are also saying Michigan!
Yes sorry to say @bobsiDi you're definitely shipping from Michigan.
@AnniebelloPaper Thank you!! Yeah from what I could see on my end, my shop profile on the orange app has switched back to "Ships worldwide from Australia" since adding the zeros. I've just checked your shop profile too and it now says "Dispatches from Australia to select countries".
Right. This is actually a total joke and the fact that we're left to figure out weird workarounds for something as basic as our location without knowing if/how it will affect things is CLASSIC Etsy.

Just checked @bobsiDi You're back to delivering "worldwide from Australia"
Not sure whether to go for the 00 workaround or not ...
@CostumePatternTrim I have just a while ago. It's not ideal because the problem still exists and the workaround shouldn't actually work. I've also put wording on the top of all my physical descriptions alerting buyers to the problem.
I'm still messaging Etsy tech on the ticket ... three days and still not a peep in reply. I've advised them that I've deployed the workaround and asked repeatedly for a fix and an update in the forums. Still crickets!

@bobsiDi They are showing Australia now ... Did you talk to chat?
