...hasn't been working for a few days now. Does anyone know if Etsy is working on fixing this?
I'm English (UK) and it always worked for me until about a year ago, and then it suddenly didn't work, and hasn't worked since.
Check the English language settings. I always choose English US and the toggle likes to jump to English UK on its own. When I go into my settings and choose English US, the translate tool does work, but the toggle eventually jumps to UK and then the translation tool stops working. Very likely, this is a setting issue and the setting might not be staying on the one that you chose.
Most times it doesn't seem to work for me. I put the text into Google Translate.
I've never had a problem before. Nothing has changed at my end, which is why I assumed it was an Etsy glitch.
It's never worked for me. I have always assumed it is because my language has been set to English (Australia) English and not English US. However, I have just noticed that it is now set to English US probably because my youngest granddaughter has been pushing random buttons on my computer again so I will have to try it and see if it works now.
I haven't tried it for a while - but it used to work in Chrome, but not in Firefox
The translate function only works if your language preference is set to English (US).
Since I am in the UK, my default language setting is English (UK) and I have to keep going and changing it to US so I can see the translations. Each time I log in it resets to UK. grr
Aha! I never knew this.
I had the wonderful experience of living in the UK for a year ... UK English has so many wonderful words (like knackered). Maybe the translator just feels that UK English is too high a bar for translations.
@GlassyFields lol. I love that word - I use it a lot. Unfortunately I think it's more likely that we (UK) just aren't important enough in the scheme of things. I don't mind setting my language to 'US English', I just wish the preference would stick.
@GlassyFields and the slang version of knackered is Kerry Packered!!
How odd. My account has always been set to English UK, and I've never had a problem before.
It's never worked for me when I've tried clicking it so I rarely attempt to click it.
For the most part I view the forums in Google Chrome so I right-click on an empty part of the browser page and in the menu that appears I choose "Translate to English".
same for me.
another successful self discovery workaround for an etsy glitch.
@givemeacrown thanks, I never knew about this workaround. I bet it doesn't work on my Amazon fire tablet though (I will test later)
Hasn't worked for me for well over a year, it used to work... but no longer.

@SmudgePlant That worked for me. The translate function has always worked, there's a seller in Germany in another thread I use it for.
I swapped to US English instead of UK English and it worked, yay! Thank you. I’ve been trying to fix this for ages
Ah, I thought it was just me that translate didn't work for. I've also got English UK set, although it sounds like that isn't the reason by its self. I'm using Firefox and would check on Chrome if I didn't have to sign in (which I'm happy is the case now, but does make quickly checking things like this less likely).
The Forum translator only speaks US English. If you're set to UK English it can not translate that foreign language! I am on a Mac and tried both Safari and Firefox.
edited by me
I can't remember when translate last worked for me, it's certainly been a long time! I've given up on it, but if ultra curious I go to Google translate.
Interesting to hear though, the reason being it only translates if set at English U.S.
I use an iPad, a PC and a Samsung phone and the translation has never worked for me on any device as I have UK English as a setting. I’m afraid I really can’t be bothered to keep changing the settings so I live in blissful ignorance of some of the postings in the forums.
