Thumbnails and new listings format

I had all my thumbnails set as I wanted them, now, suddenly some are small, some extra large with parts of the photo out of the image. Anyone else experiencing this? Also, when using the new listing format, starting a new listing, it won't let me save it to draft, only publish, this should not be.

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

All of my thumbnails are not formatting correctly and unable to adjust, edit or add.

Your listing thumbnail photos look fine for me on desktop. Are you referring to on the app or on a mobile device browser?

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

I have the same. Looks like Etsy changed listing size to ratio 1:1 which is very confusing as I've done almost all listing to look nice in the size we used to. Now I have to change all listing sizes ratio and probably make new pictures for some listing. Just strange they never let you know about UI changes.

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

Yes.  It's happened to me too.  My photos were nicely sized to fill the frame of the thumbnail photo.  Now some overfill it (the item isn't all in the picture), while some are smaller and don't fill the frame.  This is with my desktop Etsy, Google Chrome browser.  They look better on the Seller App on my phone.  And they look OK if I come in as a customer looking at my shop.  But not in MY desktop, which is where I edit everything.   Etsy support chat was not useful.  Recommended having the pictures at least 2000 pixels wide (which they are), updating my browser (it's up to date), and using a different browser (c'mon, guys...)  Everything except addressing the issue of why suddenly all of my photos appear resized and the shop is very sloppy looking as a result.

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

I am having the same problem, just now uploaded my products, and they looked great on the listing thumbnail but after I made them active, thumbnails are too large and out of the image size and sloppy.  help, I've never had this issue, until this month.

@WhiteCloverStudio  I looked at your Shop, and your thumbnails look great. One of mine is chopped off at the side. But it is on my Home Page in rectangular format and it's not chopped off.  I left my photos alone.

I am having issues too. I add my pics and crop them so that they fill the screen. after I publish I check them and half of them have reverted to their pre-cropped stae. It's irritating and makes me not want to use the new listing format. twice the work.

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

Hi everyone, has anyone been able to fix this - I changed all of my thumbnails to square and they're appearing really zoomed in and cropped on my page. Its called Career Curator

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

@CareerCurator I had to reupload all my main/thumb images and then NOT use the crop tool. If course this gives no control over the thumbnail image but it's better than being cropped twice (which was what was happening before).

Re: Thumbnails and new listings format

If you have square images then don't use the thumbnail adjustment tool.

They have not updated the thumbnail adjustment tool, it still causes the thumbnail to be saved as 5:4.

For the new square format on the shop home pages Etsy crop the 5:4 thumbnail at the sides to make it square. This causes a zoomed in effect.

Etsy have been using a different thumbnail processing to produce square thumbnails for search results.  They create a new square thumbnail based on the same centre point as the existing 5:4 thumbnail adjustment but including more of the original image top & bottom so that it is square but not cropped in at the sides. It will depend on the amount of the original image available above & below the 5:4 thumbnail adjustment, and it gets complicated if there is insufficient original image. The square version craeted from thumbnail adjustments in search results are therefore a zoomed out version.

The new listing format is terrible! It has more bugs than my garden and I wonder if there is anybody that is liking it and having it functioning? Why doesn't Etsy ever want to listen to the concerns and preferences of the sellers?
