How do you edit a thumbnail?

there are no options except to crop. 

and why do I have to wait 11 days to generate Etsy ads?

You can only crop the thumbnail image - there are no other editing options. If you want to add text then you have to use image editing software or website such as Canva.

I don't know about Etsy ads, but I suggest you do not use them until you are sure your listings are optimised for Etsy search placement.

I find it better to edit images on a photoshop type program.

relying on etsy to crop and position can be unreliable.

You wouldn't need etsy ads if you titled, described, & tagged your items with proper SEO.
