Are there tech issues with Etsy billing today? I'm trying to refund a customer for shipping overages and I've gotten an error message 3 times. It says they are unable to process my refund because they could not charge my credit card on file. It's the same card I've used since my shop has been opened. I've checked it on Etsy and even called my bank to ensure there are no problems but nothing.
If you just made the sale today, wait until tomorrow to refund. the money from the sale will be in your shop payment account and they won't try to charge your credit card.
No the sale was from April. It was a large custom order that took a lot of time.
Looks like it was a tech problem was on Etsy's side. I was able to get it taken care of with a phone call. Hope no one else has any issues!
I'm having this issue right now and can't get on to Etsy's help or contact us. I am refunding the amount in full as it was priced incorrectly in the listing. The buyer, a guest, has not responded to all the attempts I have made to resolve it with her. It's almost due to be sent and I'm stressing because I can't get on to the buyer OR Etsy!!!
You can refund the full amount and cancel the order for almost any reason. You have reached out to the buyer and explained the problem so I would just refund and cancel..
@KangarooKidsDesigns : "... as it was priced incorrectly in the listing." Be careful about refunding an order for that reason. Laws vary, but in some places a buyer can at least file a complaint against you. And you should also double check if your any of your listings violate intellectual property rights - 'Bambi' stands out as something that an Etsy bot may flag.

I'm having the same issue canceling order this morning.
Etsy isn’t allowing me to refund or cancel as they have to charge back to a credit card and I don’t have one. What’s worse, I can’t get on to them either
@KangarooKidsDesigns - If you have either a credit or debit card attached to your account, they will charge that if you don't have enough money in your shop payment account.
I know this is an older thread, but did the OP get a resolution for this? This keeps happening for me, as well. First attempt, I get the error message concerning my card on file, but that card does not need to be updated and is the same card I have used forever. There is more than enough funds in the account. Each time, I attempt to process the refund the second time, it works??? Mystified and beyond annoying actually.
Hi, didn’t get resolved & I ended up working it out myself. I don’t use a credit card. I use a debit card. Turns out that funds still need to be in my Etsy account in order for Etsy to be able to process the refund. For reasons unknown to me my debit card on file that always has funds can’t be used to process a refund. Wouldn’t think it’s a geographical issue but maybe it is. I’m in Australia. It didn’t matter how many attempts I made when the payment account on Etsy was empty. Just wouldn’t do it.
