I've noticed this before, and I find it confusing.
I have a listing that that has wonky stats
When I look at the stats for "All Time," the views are lower than when I look at the same listing for a shorter custom period.
When I look at the chart, I see that there is a huge discrepancy in the numbers even from year to year.
All time Visits: 2474
2017- 119
2018- 854
2019- 931
2020- 237
2021- 207
2022- 126
Custom Period 2017-11-01 - 2022-08-14 Visits: 2517
2017- 57
2018- 875
2019- 952
2020- 258
2021- 228
2022- 147
The listing was created 6-30-2017, so I expected the 2017 numbers to be different. But all the other years should be the same. They shouldn't change. The shorter period of time should be lower than the longer period of time, but it is significantly higher.
Please don't tell me I should only care about 30 days worth of stats. I have a reason for checking these two specific time periods.
This didn't happen to me, so I don't remember the details, but a couple of years ago some stats wigged out for a few days and they were zero, but if you looked at them for a different time period that included the time in question they were there. Etsy did their normal we're looking into it, but never really did anything about it. That might account for the fact that some listings are affected and others not.
@LoribethStudios According to anecdotal evidence in this forum Etsy stats are often incorrect as displayed. If you have Google analytics connected to your account you should use those numbers.
Google Analytics isn't always correct either. This week, on the day I got a sale, it said I had zero traffic, views, visits, etc. In fact, it has said I've had zero traffic several days in the last two weeks. And, since Etsy isn't set up to switch to the new GA, it's hard to know what to believe any more.
I sometimes wonder if the numbers change for the investors or stock holders. If they see higher numbers the company looks more successful & either 1) more money might be invested, or 2) stock holders don't complain because things look good...until the numbers no longer add up.
I'm could be very wrong, but I've still wondered about it.
The investors probably don't look at the stats online through the same system we do, because an individual shop's numbers would be irrelevant to them.
The numbers for full months should not change depending on the time period selected in the shop stats.
But given that the numbers are so wonky, I don't know how the stockholders can feel secure about their investment either.
@LoribethStudios
What do you suppose it could be? Maybe an error in the system?
That's the only thing I can figure. An error on Etsy's system would seem to be the only reason. It doesn't happen on all my listings, just a few. Which means, they probably won't even look into it.
Mine are same doing all time vs custom.
Dunno why yours aren't.
I'm glad you aren't having this problem. It isn't doing it on all my listings. I've found I think 4 of them that the numbers are wonky. It's probably a glitch somewhere that only affects a few listings, so I'm sure Etsy isn't worried about it.
Mine are doing something similar. I was checking all time stats for each listing and the very strange this is some are showing on the graph to only have been active on Etsy since July 8th of this year. That makes no sense as most of mine have been around for years?? I tried doing this year, changing the dates around, etc, same thing happens. It is not all listings or I'd say there was a hiccup or something with my shop. Definitely something odd going on.
Makes it kind of hard to see what needs work and what doesn't. Some even say they have not had any sales ever, but I KNOW they have.
I agree. It makes it really hard to know what's working and what isn't working. Of course, we all know what Etsy will do about it. Starts with an "n", ends with a "g" and "othin" in between.

I do remember something about that. I'm pretty sure the same thing would happen this time if I reported it... in other words, nothing would happen.
