Stats Explosion - was this a glitch?

Hi All,

I am a small shop.  I don't get a lot of visits/views on a daily basis, usually between zero and 10 a day.  I think the most visits I have ever had on a given day was when I asked for a shop critique about a year ago.  Well, last night while I was asleep all heck broke loose and there was an explosion of visits to my shop.  I had 242 Visits and 240 Views.  Out of those visits, 112 were from Etsy SEO/Marketing, 63 Direct and other traffic, (3 of those were from my YouTube channel), and 67 Social Media (my Facebook Page).  Most of these came at one time.

My views were mostly on one item (235), but there were other items that were viewed as well.

This is waaaaaayyyy out of the norm for my shop.  What gives?  Is this a glitch?  Are they bots?  That doesn't really track because of the various ways the traffic came in.  Anybody have an idea?

This isn't worrisom for me, more a curiosity.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you might have.

Re: Stats Explosion - was this a glitch?

My stats have been fluctuating. My gut instinct has been that some serious tests are going, or serious cycling of shops. Something has felt off to me for a month or so. At some points, the changes in activity have made me downright worried. But it is averaging out to normal even though the flow of it is odd.

@RamblinRoseSoaps - I had that happen a couple days ago. Instead of my normal 50-100 Visits/views, I had 600+!

Bots went crazy. And they looked at every single item in my shop, not just a few.

When it happens to me it's usually because a happy customer gave me a positive mention somewhere on social media, facebook marketplace usually

@Releas3DPrints

Here's to hoping that's the case for me, too!

Re: Stats Explosion - was this a glitch?

On the 1st October Etsy changed the way their algorithm works. So if you meet all the below you will be favoured and bumped up in search rankings.

Etsy's algorithm is changing on October 1st with the following updates:
  • Shipping prices: Listings with domestic shipping prices under $6 will be prioritized in search results. Etsy will exclude certain items and categories from this change, including digital items, listings shipped from outside the US, and listings priced over $35.
  • Photos: Listings need at least five high-quality photos that are at least 2,000 pixels wide. Etsy recommends avoiding dark images and collages.
  • Return policy: All listings need a clear return policy, even if returns are not accepted.
  • Search rankings: Review ratings, message response rates, and on-time shipping will play a larger role in search rankings.
  • Search Visibility Page: This page will help identify areas where listings may need improvement.
  • Etsy sellers can use the Search Visibility Page to identify areas for improvement. They can also try these tips to improve their Etsy SEO: Research and use relevant keywords in product titles and descriptions, Use all 13 Etsy tags in each listing, Select specific categories, Add relevant attributes, and Renew listings regularly.

Bonjour, cela m'arrive de temps en temps avec des pics à plus de 800. Je n'y prête aucune attention. Je sais bien que c'est un bug!

Same for my shop yesterday. Stats page showed a spike of 1200 visits but the main dashboard only had 100. I’m hoping it’s fixed because it killed my conversion rate.

Re: Stats Explosion - was this a glitch?

I had a listing that was getting a HUGE number of views but no sales. I finally noticed my typo. I had a $45 item listed for $45,000. It must have always came up at the top when a search was for highest price first.
