So I ordered an item from another shop that shop said they shipped it then 5 days later said item not available so they refunded my money. That shop sent me a message about sending me a refund I never responded to them because I was kinda upset about it I would never treat my customers that way and because I didn’t respond they sent me a message through my shop about the item I ordered from them I still didn’t respond because it was business related for my shop and now it cost me star seller seriously there should be another way because I’m a small shop and I don’t get many emails but all the ones I get I answer and I ship on time I have great reviews so now for three months this other shop cost me my rating. Some other shops bad customer service should not get to reflect on me

Reply or spam, those are the only two options to avoid getting dinged for messages under SSB.

Unless you create a separate accounts for buying and selling, all of your messages are in one inbox. It doesn't matter who it's from or what it's in regards to. If it comes through your account attached to your shop then you need to either respond or mark as spam. I certainly don't need Etsy reading my messages to determine what they are about and how they should be categorized, so I'm happy to utilize the tools they provide and be proactive as a shop owner to make sure anything that needs to be handled is handled.
