I made Star Seller for the month of March and I was looking at my ratings. I have 94% response rate on messaging, so I downloaded messages and the one I am getting dinged for is a Thank you message from a purchase I made, not from a customer of mine. There was no response required. Anyone else have this issue? How do you have Etsy review something?
It's not a bug, it's a feature. All messages need to be responded to, or marked as spam. I had the same issue, with messages from another seller I purchased from, early on in the SS program. Now you know, going forward.
Star seller program doesn't know that a message would not necessarily need a reply. Their rule is that every message must get a reply in a certain time. You must reply, at least once to keep your stats correct. After the fact, Etsy will not review or make changes, now you know for next time.
You have to reply to everything and within a certain time as well. My score went from 100% to 67% just for missing one message. Not having a SS badge doesn't necessarily affect my sales though.
@ShadowCreekEmporium2: "Anyone else have this issue?" There are innumerable threads in this forum about your exact issue. As it says right on your Star Seller page and elsewhere, you need to reply to the FIRST message of EVERY NEW INCOMING THREAD within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such.
"How do you have Etsy review something?" Unfortunately in this case there is nothing to review or fix. The Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you replied to (or marked as SPAM) that first message of a new incoming thread within 24 hours or you did not.
A number of sellers have said that no response was required. It’s not required if you are not concerned about the Star Seller, if you are trying to get or keep the Star Seller then it is required. You should know you need to respond to all new messages so why would you not respond?
