My Star Seller status states that I am almost there because I did not reply to a message on January 3. I looked up my messages and I had two identical messages from the same person. One message was a help request which I replied to. The second message was a general message on the order. I did not know I failed to reply to one of the messages. Since they are the same exact message I would like a lack of response to be reconsidered.
Thank you
@Orangeblossomquiltco: Unfortunately, Etsy has made it clear that they will not manually adjust Star Seller data. The Star Seller metric is that the FIRST message of a NEW thread must be replied to within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such.
At least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered message as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to auto update in a day or two if the original message was within the current star seller period. Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.
Since day 1, the Star Seller states all messages must be answered or put into spam.
Reconsidered by Etsy? You can try to contact them about it, but they're extremely unlikely to change anything for you.
Supposedly, you can mark it as spam and it will stop counting against you in a few days. But you do have to answer every new message thread (or mark them as spam.) It doesn't matter what the message is about, who it's from, or whether or not it logically needs an answer.

I had on my auto reply per a suggestion. It sucks that it didn't auto reply or I would have just spammed it. It was from a customer that asked a question about something that I didn’t sell. They contacted the wrong seller. Me! Now it’s March 1st, will it update for March?
You have to respond to each new message thread, they are in blue, so you don't miss them
that's it, etsy doesn't read the millions of messages a day, the bots do it, and they don't get re-visited
