Star Seller Tracking is INFLUENCED BY THE CARRIER

Jump to solution

I have a problem with how Etsy calculates Star Seller status for tracking.  I put tracking on all my orders, went back 3 months to double-check, but Etsy shows I haven't for 3 orders in this current time period.  I asked Etsy to tell me which orders had no tracking and here is what I found out:  IF THE CARRIER DOES NOT PASS INFORMATION ON TO ETSY, THEN ETSY ONLY SEES THAT THE PACKAGE IS UNTRACEABLE.  And this is why, on my end, that my Star Seller status page shows I have not included tracking with those orders.  SO LET THAT SINK IN... you dutifully plug in your tracking numbers on your shipping page thinking you've done your job with tracking, BUT, NO... because if subsequently, the carrier doesn't communicate that to Etsy, it's like you never plugged in your tracking numbers at all!  IT SHOULD NOT BE THE SELLER'S FAULT IF THE CARRIER DOESN'T COMMUNICATE TO ETSY.  This is giving Sellers inaccurate scores and Etsy needs to fix this.

Hello, and welcome to the Etsy Community Forums!

We suggest using the Forums Search function prior to posting (just be careful to not bump an old thread that hasn't seen any activity in the last months/years), as questions regarding the Star Seller Program have been extensively covered by our fellow members since its launch, as well as our official Star Seller Guide, which contains in-depth answers to some of the more common questions regarding Message Response Rate, Shipping, Local Pick-Up, Digital Orders, and other topics. You can check it out here:etsy.com/starseller.

Having said that, and since this thread does not pertain to a technical issue, we are closing this thread to prevent it from going off-topic.

Thank you!

So long as a tracking number is entered into Etsy -- either automatically from whichever online source you buy your labels or manually if you buy at the PO or from somewhere that is not integrated with Etsy, then that order is counted as tracked.

Whether or not Etsy can later follow the tracking is immaterial.
Etsy uses a service called "Aftership" to follow tracking -- which does not integrate with Royal Mail (which the majority of UK sellers use) so they are unable to tell when a package is delivered --but they do still consider it as tracked for Star Seller purposes if a tracking number is entered.
