My Star Seller status was revoked for not responding to a message in a timely manner. Unknown why status is no longer calculated for previous month but for three months back. The message to which I have not responded is from November 5, 2023, and it is a classic Phishing attack. It turns out that I am being punished because I decided to protect myself.
Also, in three months I haven't responded to just one message on time, just one, and that's been counted as a major offense.
Please have my Star Seller status restored.
If you mark a message as "spam", you don't need to respond to it and your star seller rating won't get dinged.
I don't think Etsy reads comments here, so asking them to restore your rating here won't help. But if your one unanswered message was back in early November, it's about to scroll off your record anyway in a few days.
You can set up an automated response messages, like "thanks for your interest, I will get back to you as soon as possible" or something, and that way your seller rating won't be affected if you can't get back to them with the information within 24 hours .
Try marking it as "spam" now (need to login with a web browser, the seller app doesn't have this feature). Etsy sometimes will reverse the non-response if you do it fast enough.
And in the future mark all spam messages that way, so not responding won't affect star seller message response rate.
It's always been calculated on the previous 3 month period. Since the beginning. Either respond or mark as spam, to every first-time message - even the spam / scam ones, ones ones from other Sellers that you don't think require a response. Moving forward, now you know.

and you have always had to reply to each new message thread, or mark it as spam
95%, means you have to reply in time, or mark as spam for 95 out of a hundred,
or, breaking it down to the lowest number to make 95% = , 19 out of 20
And by the way-- if you're a seller and you buy something on Etsy and get a thank-you message from the seller, make sure you respond within 24 hours! I found out the hard way that Etsy counts that response in your star seller rating!

My response rate just went down to 85% from 100% and I lost my star rating. I am super responsive to customer questions. I realized I got dinged because I received a message that an item I had purchased had shipped (which I didn’t think merited a response). Wrong. No recourse.

The rules clearly state from buyer or seller so that should not be a surprise to anyone.

What "no contact box" are you speaking of? There's no such thing when you make a purchase on Etsy.
If you're referring to email settings, that has nothing to do with messages sent through Etsy.
