The order stating, I didn't respond in 24 hours is wrong. The buyer sent me a message regarding a shipment issue thru messages. I responded in the messaged function attached to the order within a few hours. How do we get this corrected?
you have to respond to the actual message not through the order. Responding through the order doesn't count. The only way etsy can tell if you responded to the message is if you respond to it so technically you didn't respond even though you did give the buyer a response through another avenue. Stinks, I know but that's just the way it is unfortunately.

It cannot be fixed for this month -- even if you had answered the convo and were dinged in error, they do not award badges retroactively.
Not answering an initial message correctly is something that nearly all of us have done once. Now you know for next time.
