I have responded to every message within 24 hours, most way faster than that! My rate has always been 100%. I am having a birthday party for my daughter, so I ordered stuff from someone on Etsy. They sent me a change of shipping date notification that needed no response and has nothing to do with my shop, so I did not reply. Etsy counted it against me and now my response rate is 94%, so I will lose my badge. I'm just wondering why this counts against me and if there is anything I can do about it?
Reply to all messages or mark as spam.
Mark it as spam now and it should come off in a day or 2. It is better to buy as a guest or make a buying account then you won't have that stuff landing in your message box. You need to respond to EVERY first message in 24 hours. It is not just "buyer" messages.

From the star seller info on your dashboard:
"Your message response rate is based on just the first message in a conversation, not ongoing conversations. This means you just need to respond to the first message within 24 hours. This applies to messages both from buyer and seller accounts. Messages from Etsy staff do not count toward your response rate, and neither do messages that you mark as spam. You can also now find a breakdown of your message response rate score by downloading a CSV."
It's always been this way. Respond to every first message, regardless of who it's from.

Why it counts against you - Not only is it polite to respond to messages, it's also mandatory. (If you want the Purple Star, that is.)
Please - Thank You - Okay - all appropriate responses.
Ok thank you!!
