I have pefect scores for star seller. 5 star rating and 100% shipping. Only one time in months that I missed a message for 24 hours. Now I'm 89% for messages. Why don't I qualify for star seller for next month? Only one time I missed a message on time. So now I'm not a star seller? Does not make sense.
I only had eight messages between July through September. Only one message I wasn't on time because of circumstances not under my control. Really, all year I answered every message on time. One this whole year not on time and I'm kicked out of the Star Seller club! I really think this is so funny!
Your shop says you are a star seller.
Thanks for looking. It's for next month. They say I don't qualify. I downloaded my messages to see if I missed something but, no I didn't. I only had one message that I relpied to after 24 hours in months.
Only one time I was late responding based on: Data based on current review period: July 1–September 30, 2022 I had responded on time for every message from July to Sep except one a few days ago. So why would it go down to 89% and not qualify for October star seller?
I'd guess it's because you didn't have enough new messages answered within 24 hours to average and off set the one message that was late.
because the algorithm is skewed.
We had 5.0 rating for reviews, a single one star review brought us to 4.7

"Why don't I qualify for star seller for next month?" probably because "Now I'm 89% for messages."
You need to be at least 95% for message response rate for star seller. Your percentage is less than the target of 95%. It's basic math.
From the Help Center article about Star Seller here https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403058372503?segment=selling
"Message response rate is calculated by dividing the number of new messages you’ve responded to within 24 hours by the total number of new messages you've received during the calculation period."
You can do the math yourself to double check but it's just basic math percentages. If you don't receive many messages then 1 late reply will have a bigger impact on your overall percentage. If you receive tons of messages then 1 missed one is less likely to impact your percentage as much. Go to the Star Seller page in shop manager and click on the > in the Message Response rate and it will tell you how many messages it is counting and give you the option to download your message history csv.

It's a club with a rotating door. Sometimes we're in, sometimes we're out.
If you only missed one, and you're at 89%, then you only got 9 messages total in that time period, and one was late.
8 divided by 9 is 89%.
Totally funny! All the years on Etsy and now I'm a bad, bad seller!
Thanks for a reply. Have a super week!
It really has nothing to do with what kind of seller you are. It's just basic math, and that's the parameters Etsy decided on for getting into the club.
From what I remember you need 19 messages to make up for one missed one.
Wait until Oct 1. Forum will be flooded with a wrong message rate.
Luckily the mods have started shutting most of them down as soon as they're posted, telling people all the information is here and has already been gone over many times before.
@audreytherese Sure hope so. Sellers really need to read the star seller instructions thoroughly.
Ok guys since Etsy can’t help me - what am I missing? What happens when 2 of my messages are missing from the calculation? I downloaded the log and I’m missing 2 messages from the last 2 days of the months. I kept waiting for them to appear but nothing. I had 62/66 and I’m at 94%. I should have 64/66 (still just a little over 94). It’s driving me craaaazy.
You can't do anything at all about that -- they'll show up in this month's CSV. The same thing will probably happen at the end of this month as well.
@OOAKStreetDye: Based on our analysis of the CSV files, it appears that messages are assigned to the month that the 24 hour reply window ends (not when the message was received or answered) and orders are assigned to the month that they are scheduled to ship by (not when they were placed or shipped). And dates are determined by UTC not the sellers timezone.
