Star Seller Graph showing below every item viewed with incorrect percentages.

Jump to solution

Has anyone else noticed a graph appearing below an item they are selling that a shopper views that quotes your 5 star/4star/3star/2star/1star percentages for each star supposedly based on your total feedbacks?  This is a totally incorrect rating.  I have over 1600 feedbacks and according to the graph it shows 99% for 5 star and 1% for 4 star.  In reality that means I have over 16 4 star ratings, but I don't.... I think I have had either 3 or 4 that were 4 star and one 3 star.  Meanwhile my star ratings for most of the time this program has run has been 100% except for the first 4 or 5 months it ran.  So the percentage should show 5 star 100%.  This is very misleading especially if you have had a couple star ratings lower.  Where did they learn to calculate percentage?????  Is this a experiment again?  Slight as this little error in figuring percentages goes it is still claiming the seller is not doing an excellent job when in fact they are.

Hello there,

We're currently conducting an experiment regarding the way we display reviews on listings. Please know that we often run tests on Etsy with the goal of bringing more sales to our sellers. Even if a feature already seems to be working well, we find that there's always room for improvement and new opportunities to bring even more business. As ecommerce is continually evolving, we run experiments on Etsy to help test out ways to make it easier for buyers to find what they are looking for and make a purchase. Testing allows us to build better tools for the entire Etsy community.

We keep a careful eye on stats that tell us exactly how buyers and sellers change their behavior because of tests, but we know it’s not all about the data. We also listen to what the community is telling us via email, feedback forms, the Forums, and other avenues.

It's really valuable to hear all of your perspective on potential changes so we get a more complete picture, and we want you to know that we're noting all of your feedback and will be sharing it with our teams to review.

Thank you very much!

I just noticed it today. Not a fan. Another way for Etsy to look like Eb**.  Didn't check to see if the averages were correct.

I'm thinking this isn't based on your total reviews but only the last 12 months.

Etsy prefers to use whole numbers, therefore while the actual % maybe something like 0.0x or 0.x or whatever, they will always automatically round that up to 1%.

PLEASE take the unattractive and misleading graph off of our shops. I personally strive so hard to maintain my Star Seller status and when the graph pops up on my listings, it doesn't reflect that rating, with the exception of one listing. If your intent was to bring us more business, it's doing the opposite. Please take it off of the page!! A buyer is not going to understand and they are taking that graph at face value. You are hurting sellers.

My issue is that the graph takes up such an inordinate amount of space on the page.

Why are reviews felt to be more worthy of all that space than the descriptions?

If that space was used for the descriptions of the items, ironically, my review graph would be much smaller, because most of my 'less than 5 star' reviews are because the buyer didn't see or read the description!.
