Star Maker Stats

Jump to solution

Im not going to pretend to know  how these figures are worked out. In September I had an e mail from someone touting for business  nothing to do with orders etc. I meant to reply but didnt. I was  then marked down from 100% to 88%. After that e mail I didnt receive any more e mails. Needless to say I didnt get  star maker this month but what I dont understand is why it has gone down to 67%.

Hello @LottieandMae,

Kindly know that the Message response rate counts initial messages from all Etsy members, both buyers, and other sellers. This is because fellow sellers could be potential buyers for your shop. If it's not a spam message it requires a response within 24 hours. If it is a spam message you can mark it as such and it won't count towards your score.

On the other hand, the reason why the Message Response rate has dropped is that we are now in a new review period(August 1–October 31, 2022). This means that all the data for July will not be included. To check your performance for the last review period, you can navigate to Shop Manager dashboard > Star Seller dashboard page > click the Last review period > select the Message response rate tile > select the Export link next to Message breakdown.

Thank you very much!

Read the rules on your Star Seller dashboard (or some of the 1000s of other Forum threads on this same issue). ALL messages count. You should have marked the message as Spam. You can do that now, but it may not change your status, since the rating period is over.

for the next star seller badge,

all of Julys numbers are dropped off the count, and it's for August, Sept, and October-to-date, and as it's only the 2nd October, you have a whole month to catch up, what was dropped off in July's numbers

@LottieandMae: Probably everyone in this forum can sympathize with you but as you will see by the innumerable threads about the exact same issue in this forum it is not likely to change.

The Star Seller metric is that the FIRST message of a NEW thread must be replied to (or marked as spam) within 24 hours. Subsequent messages from the same account (a buyer may have multiple accounts) are supposed to be combined into a single thread.

Help Requests always start a new thread. By the way, if you are creating a custom listing based on a new thread, you still need to reply to the message. Etsy is now putting a blue text warning / advisory on those messages they consider to be a "new message".

At least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered message as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two if the original message was within the current star seller period.

If you have not yet done so, you might want to read https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403058372503-How-to-Become-a-Star-Seller?segment=selling
