Shop Thumbnails are now Rectangular - December 10, 2023

I am in my Shop adjusting some of my images and noticed that the thumbnails are now Rectangles.

Please, either they are Square or they are Rectangle.  Can Etsy please keep one or the other??????  My image is being cut off at the top because the thumbnail is not square.

Maybe a test, I still see square in your shop. Do all shops have rectangles when you view them? If yes then I would assume it is a test you are in. If no, then possibly technical issues on Etsy's side. I have seen weird things happen with photos over the years (temporarily).

i think they should change the shape.

to a squircle.

I see squares. I adjusted all of my images to fit in either a square or rectangle. All of the important information fits within a square. If Etsy decides to change to rectangle there's extra space on the sides so it still fits within the thumbnail without anything getting cut off.

I just did a listing and the thumbnail was square.

@PooglesCorner: Etsy said back in July that "We’ll be displaying photos with a square crop in your shop home" https://community.etsy.com/t5/Announcements/We-re-making-updates-to-size-and-ratio-for-listing-image... and that is how they have been displaying for us for quite some time.

Do you see rectangles in all shops when viewing with different browsers or incognito? 

I have not seen them in any other way than squares once they "formally" announced they were going to use squares. BUT that would totally be Etsy to change them again.

I'm just confused WHY they would even test this again. They seemed SO sure that squares were the way to go after testing for a single month. If shoppers prefer squares more, why change

It's the oddest thing. I have been doing square images since I started with Etsy about 10 years ago. 

Earlier I was editing and when I looked at my shop, not in Preview mode, they were rectangles.

I just looked at the shop now while not signed in and they are square.

Sigh.....it could have been a test, but who knows!!!

I know this was posted a month ago but all of my listing photos are showing as rectangles aside from some of the first featured listing photos. Also, when viewing my shop listing thumbnails from the main shop pages, some primary listing photos are now showing really small and zoomed out while others are now overly zoomed in and cropped.

I see squares on your shop pages, and nothing looks zoomed in or out.

@MoonstruckCottage  That’s odd. Even when I look at my shop incognito view, I’m seeing rectangles and varying degrees of zoom in/out displays. The primary (first photo) in each listing when clicked on seems to be more square but the subsequent images in each listing are rectangular.

Are you talking about your photos on your shop home pages -- or your photos in your listings?

That is odd. All the shop home page photos are square and look fine when I view your shop. Maybe try a different browser and see how it looks.

Argh! Haven't put up a new listing in about a year and just learning this now! I've always had a watermark logo in the top left of my listings and always use square images. Then, I'd crop the thumbnail in the Etsy interface in order to use the top part of the image for the thumbnail so my watermark logo would show in the rectangle thumbnails. Now they just use the middle of the square and don't allow you to select which part of the square to use. I had the perfect template set up now I need to figure a way of repositioning the logo more into the middle of the image which will interfere with the usable space. If they want to use squares, use squares everywhere!

I changed mine to square, but now it shows in required listing format:

• Avoid square crops. Upload horizontal or landscape images.
• Use an aspect ratio of 4:3

4:3 ratio is rectangle, I’m so confused!
