Shop Suspension in error

Hello all! My Etsy shop was suspended without any explanation today. After contacting customer service and submitting an appeal, my shop was quickly reinstated, and Etsy emailed me to confirm that the suspension was an error. However, during the brief two-hour suspension, I received numerous order cancellations including for those ready to ship! I had to reach out to each customer to halt the ongoing refunds, and some customers reordered after I clarified the situation. My question is: will Etsy send an email to my customers explaining that the suspension was an error? It feels like I am the only one affected by this situation, yet Etsy has not offered any solutions for the problems caused by this 'error.' It took a considerable amount of time for me to manage all these customer communications.

Your shop is not suspended. It is open. You got a scam message.

Thank you for your reply! Etsy has reinstated my shop, and it is now open again. However, they sent emails to all my customers stating that I was no longer selling, resulting in many cases being opened and refunds being issued to my customers.

I highly doubt that Etsy will do anything beyond reopening your shop. It sounds like a major hassle on your end.

Re: Shop Suspension in error

I have never heard of Etsy notifying buyers that someone was no longer selling but they seem to be doing different things with different sellers every time a shop is suspended.  It is hard to tell what is real and what is not anymore. However--I doubt a scammer could do this--they would have to have the details of all your sales.

Happy to hear you at least got your shop back.  I really think Etsy is just weeding out shops--no idea what the criteria for getting the boot could be  but they do seem to feel they have "too many sellers". Maybe we aren't churning fast enough. That said--I hold my breathe every single day for the shoe to drop!

Yes, there are many scams out there. However, the emails sent to buyers are legitimate, as Etsy has confirmed their error and compensated me with an 'apology.' I want to be quick, but handmade products take time. I'm doing my best! I hope this doesn't happen to you, as I truly love your items—they're so cute! I think it's time for me to get around to creating my own website and exploring other sales channels.

@GarlicPottery

Thank you.

Best of luck here on Etsy.

And not a bad idea at all to have your own site!

Re: Shop Suspension in error

probably not.  The suspension was probably automated.  Meaning you didn't do anything wrong.  The algorithm was set to pick out certain flags.  Which is a mass process.  In order for Etsy to send out an apology for the error, they first have to recognize and accept that the error was their fault publically.  2) They would have to fix their algorithm/formula. 3) If etsy admits the suspension was their fault, they could be liable for your lost revenue, therefore I highly doubt any such email will be sent.

Re: Shop Suspension in error

That's true. Etsy is a large company, and they hold all the power. As a small shop owner, we have little to no influence.
