Shop Link

Jump to solution

Good Morning!

I noticed that the shop link at the top right on all listings is broken.  It only takes you down to the bottom of the listing which is very confusing for buyers.  It appears there is a link down at the bottom of the listing but customers are never going to go looking down below for a link.

Is this broken or has it been disabled so that link will never work?

@WoolandWhimsyCompany I'm a bit confused.  The link at the top right?  Is this the shop name link you're talking about?
Are you on your desktop or the app?  Please be a bit more specific.  I clicked on your shop, a listing, then your shop name (the only link to click at the top right).

I am on desktop/Safari browser.  Yes, the shop link at the top right of each listing now takes you down to the bottom of the page with 6 tiny pics of other items in my shop but about 8 much bigger pics of competitors listings.

@WoolandWhimsyCompany   Ahh, I see that, according to @audreytherese, this is another test floating around. Fortunately (or unfortunately!), it is a select few buyers, NOT the shop, that are in the test.  This means not everyone will experience the phenomenon you're describing.
It certainly sounds confusing.  We've accessed the whole shop for YEARS by clicking the shop name!!

Yes.  It's horrible.

if I click on a shop name (showing right under the listing title), it takes me down the page to a summary description of the shop...NOT to the shop home page! And unless I hover over the shop name in the shop summary section on the listing page, I don't know that is clickable and therefore have no easy way to view all products in a shop and am only shown 4 random products

Another example of Etsy being so single product focused

@WoolandWhimsyCompany   It's horrible.  I have it as well.  You click on the shop name thinking it will take you back to their front page, and instead it just drops down to the bottom of the listing page you're already on!  Why don't they fix what's actually broken rather than breaking what's already fixed!

I haven't seen it yet.  Just another tinkering.  Try not to get too upset about it as Etsy will change again at some point.  I just try to go with the flow.

This is a big mess. Customers are going to be totally confused, as if sales being down are not bad enough. Unless a returning customer has our shop page bookmarked or someone searches on google with our shop name, they can't easily access the shop front page from an item page anymore. Before you just clicked on our name to reach the shop's first item page. If you are lucky and accidentally click on the new front shop title that is at the bottom of the item page, you can get to a shop's front page, but no other way. On top of that, when you access our front page finally, items in our shop have all been re-arranged to show "relevancy" (who's???), not our Etsy shop setting of the "most recent". I think the robots have run amok. None of this makes any sense....except to sell all the other stuff that is now on our item pages, but not ours.

Another example of Etsy being so single product focused!  Very very frustrating!  I'm one of those that it happens to when I'm looking a product listing page.  If my customers also have this "feature" turned on when browsing my shop, it's so bad!  Even when the user is dropped lower in the page there is no "visible" link that they can click to go to my shop home, they have to over over my shop name to see that it's clickable. And only showing 4 other products in my shop under that with no easy / visible option to see more makes it even more difficult for shoppers to easily tell that you have so much more in your shop.

I hope this is a limited test and not going to be permanent!

I noticed mine was like that a few days ago. I really wish that Etsy would focus on fixing things that don't work well instead of rolling out changes that undermine individual shops.

If the goal is to look more like Amazon, they missed the mark. On Amazon, a buyer can scroll to related products at the bottom or click the shop name in the listing to go directly to the storefront. Etsy, on the other hand, has almost hidden the shop link above the four thumbnails at the bottom of the page, essentially taking that choice away from buyers. That doesn’t serve buyers or sellers well.

It feels more like an attempt to keep buyers in Etsy's ecosystem instead of allowing them to be part of a shop's system—to control browsing, ad exposure, and buying patterns. Since Etsy went public, it’s clear that every change ties back to revenue, and this test fits that pattern.

Taking away the ability for a buyer to easily navigate to our shop pages creates confusion for returning customers who do want to get to our full shop pages. For many of us, our shop homepage—complete with branding, sections, and story—is an important part of how buyers connect with us. Taking that away means many customers may not even realize there’s a whole shop behind the listing.
