Hi,
A customer just purchased 3 items from my store. The shipping cost should have been $12.00 but it was listed as $6.00. Why did this happen and is there a problem on Etys that I am not aware of??
Thanks
Michael (owner)
@TalaveraTileKingLLC If you are putting in your own shipping profiles, perhaps you left the "with another item" part blank?
You have $5 shipping for the 4x4'' tile and $3.50 for the 2x2'' tiles. The system takes the higher amount first ($5) and adds the amount you put for the ''with another item'' box. The ''with another item'' shipping amount for your 2x2'' tiles is 50c each. The shipping total is correct according to the numbers you input in your shipping profile - $5 + .50 + .50.
The system does not take the initial shipping amount from each item in a combined order - $5 + 3.50 + 3.50 ($12).
Thanks for the tip. Just wondering why Etsy "does not take the initial shipping amount from each item in a combined order" That need to be corrected. Might have to call Etsy on this one.
@TalaveraTileKingLLC It would be a waste of time to contact Etsy about it. The shipping works as intended. It's up the the seller to figure out how much a combined order will cost to ship.
You do have $5 for the ''with another item'' for the 4'' tile. If someone buys 2 of that size, they will pay $10 in shipping. If you're losing money on the multi orders, increase the ''with another item'' shipping on the 2'' tiles.
It doesn’t need to be corrected, if you want to charge 5.00 + 3.50+3.50 then you add 3.50 as your with another item.
for the most part larger combined orders can be shipped for less than the individual items can be.
some people (me included) choose to only charge customers for the first item they buy as usually 2 items can be posted for the same price as 1. I choose to pay the additional postage on larger order, I doesn’t happen often that my initial shipping charge won’t cover the cost of postage.
I am not sure what "with another item" is. Sometimes I sell multiple items and Etsy will add all the individual shipping costs together for one large shipping fee and I refund the extra that the customer has paid. I don't know how that can be altered...
At the bottom of every listing, there is a place for "Fixed Shipping" (if you don't choose to do Calculated). There are 2 boxes for Fixed.
- You can put the same shipping price in BOTH boxes and issue a Partial Refund (this is what I do; Partial Refund for overages above $1.00 as stated in my Policies). Customers seem to understand this well. (I've not had problems since 2008, knock on wood).
OR
- You can put the following (just throwing any price out there as an example): $10.00 in the first box and $5.00 in the second box.
If you do this format, the Customer will be charged the highest shipping price for the first item ($10.00) + an additional $5.00 shipping for every other item within this order. (Again, providing you choose to do it this way).
Hope I explained it well.
@TheVintagePineapple did a great job explaining it also.
@ChillwolfArt I see it now. I've never used fixed before. Now it makes perfect sense. Thanks!
It appears you are buying and reselling these Talavera tiles and claiming them as handmade. The definition of "Handmade" on Etsy means they are handmade by you.
Sorry, That you are having a tough time calculating shipping prices, but take your tiles elsewhere. Ebay would be a better choice.
Oh dear, another non-Etsy allowed reseller sticks their head above the parapet! Though the tiles could be sold as 'Supplies' instead.....
I have found the calculated shipping works great for USPS, I weigh the items like 1.1 oz or .2 oz or 2.1 oz, and enter them during listing, if someone buys stuff it adds the different weights together. I know up to 4 oz the shipping will increase to the next rate
