I've had a customer reach out to me expecting their order sooner than my processing time/any transit time should show. I checked out one of my listings in a private browser and entered their California zip code. It was showing ONE business day after I put the order into the mail as the beginning of the Estimated Delivery date. Which is totally incorrect because I live on the East Coast, they're on the West Coast and don't offer Priority Express mail as a shipping options. This was even showing as the beginning date estimate for First Class mail. This wasn't an issue before, I've been using the same processing times and shipping profile for months. This is an error in the shipping estimate. For example, I ship it out on the 12th, it says estimated arrival 13th-18th. That first number is what customers pay attention to, not the middle or end number.

So I reached out to Etsy about this, they let me know that they're aware of a bug that causes listings to show the Estimated Delivery Date incorrectly to the customers. There's no estimated date for the fix and to basically deal with it until it's resolved.

I'm assuming it's due to them messing with the shipping settings trying to adjust Ground Advantage (which is another mess in itself since it's still not showing to buyers). So be aware if your customer messages you about the estimate being MUCH sooner than it actually should be.

It's also showing the same delivery dates for First Class and Priority Mail so very clearly a bug and a serious one but Etsy will fix it.... eventually, maybe?

Re: Shipping Transit Times incorrect, Etsy claims there's a known bug

@DebraAnnmarieStudio: "Ground Advantage to 2-5 business days" Just so you know, this is true only for packages of under 1 pound - 1 pound and heavier Ground Advantage packages have an estimated in transit time equal to the old Parcel Post. For example, a Chicago to Hawaii 15.9 ounce package has an estimated in transit time of 5 days, the exact same package at 16 ounces has an estimated in transit time of 15 days. When Etsy fixes calculated shipping and starts pricing shipping of 1 pound and heavier packages as Ground Advantage instead of Priority Mail there are going to be many irate buyers if they do not allow for the zone and weight based in transit time.

Re: Shipping Transit Times incorrect, Etsy claims there's a known bug

Wow, I wouldn't have noticed any of this if not for this thread, since my packages are lightweight but occasionally have to send Priority when it hits 16 oz or over.

So basically, now any package weighing 16 oz up to 70 lbs automatically goes Ground Advantage, unless buyer selects Priority or another, which the PO says 2-5 days (or 2-8 depending on where you look online) no matter the weight. But Etsy is putting in up to 15 days delivery when over 16 oz?

Priority Mail is still estimated at 1-3 day delivery. Packages weighing 16oz and over used to automatically go in to Priority with the supposed faster delivery. That's not happening now?

I'm getting more confused by the minute.

Re: Shipping Transit Times incorrect, Etsy claims there's a known bug

@PWOriginals: "But Etsy is putting in up to 15 days delivery when over 16 oz?" No - this is based on the information from USPS. (And it is 16 ounces and over). The fine print from USPS says "Packages going to certain places (including Alaska, Hawaii, and offshore destinations) ... may receive slower service." We had to code something for our internal apps and the "slower service" translates to up to a 15 day estimated in transit time but many locations out of your local zone are at least one or two days longer. Even a Chicago to Chicago 16 ounce package has a one day longer estimated in transit time than a 15.9 ounce package.

Re: Shipping Transit Times incorrect, Etsy claims there's a known bug

It doesn't seem to just be a US Ground Advantage issue...

Reviving this thread as I was just printing a Canada Post shipping label for an order purchased today.  I have my processing time set to 1-3 days.  I received an order this afternoon Wed, Sep 20. I should be able to ship on Fri if you count Wed as one business day. But if I select Friday from the drop down it tells me the order will be late in bold red font.

"Estimated delivery Sep 29-Oct 4 (Buyer expects Sep 27-Oct 4)"

Why does the buyer expect 5-10 days shipping when the Canada post label states - "Arrives in 5-13 business days"?

The only thing that could be happening is the order is stuck in a queue and so when I receive it, it is already into my processing time if it is calculated by the hour.  Is there a cache issue perhaps?

I double checked the listing and it says 1-3 business days processing time.  So, I would say there is a bug as the math isn't mathing.  This is calculating as if I have only 1 business day to process left.

Edited to add...I just noticed on the order page is says it should ship by Sep 25 which is Monday!  So that doesn't line up either.

@BagmakerSupply

Correct, USPS says "Packages going to certain places (including Alaska, Hawaii, and offshore destinations) ... may receive slower service."

Why can't Etsy add this language too?

Had I known this, I would not have chosen Ground Advantage.
