Shipping Calculating is always Wrong

Jump to solution

What is going on with Esty and the shipping calculating, I sell many items on Esty some orders have upwards of 15 to 20 Items on the order so shipping should be around 60 to 72.00 but Esty charges the buyer for the total order 7.75  I need to then message the buyer or cancel the order. I have sent many message to Esty help center with NO answers ever. Why is there not a number to call Esty and talk with a real person. This has made me start relisting on eBay. Etsy is lacking in seller support. Anyone have any information on how to fix this ???

I just added a listing to my cart and the shipping is $7.50. then I added another (heavier) item and the shipping did not increase. You must have your shipping profile set for ships with another item at $0.

you appear to be using fixed shipping with no charge in the additional item box, so it's adding 0.00 for each additional item.

It's taking the highest shipping charge of all the listings in an order, and charging that price only.

There are 2 ways to do shipping with Etsy:  Flat rate or calculated.

It appears you have flat rate set, but your "with another item" is off depending on the listing click on.  Some combos, it doubles the price, and others, the 2nd item ships free.

Easiest way to fix this:  Set up a new shipping profile for all the items in the same weight range, make sure your "with another item" is correct, and then attached the listings that match.   Then rinse repeat with the heavier listings.

Your Christmas ornaments are wonderful, BTW!

In the US I use calculated shipping. Apparently this is not available in all countries. With calculated, you set up all the box sizes you use. Then you measure and weigh each item with the bubblewrap or whatever you pad with, but without the box. Etsy should then combine the weights and select the smallest size box you have listed that the total order will fit in and give you the price, based on zip code and how far the customer is from you. It works most of the time within a few cents, but occasionally, I will have an item (mostly beads) that  tends to overcharge when there are a lot of strands, and I have to do a partial refund. But at least I don't have to go back and ask the customer for more money.

On foreign orders you don't have to figure out a rate for each country since their zip code is used so it does it automatically.

The other way to do it is to charge a flat rate no matter where the customer lives, plus an additional amount for each additional item, like $5.00 for the first item and $2.00 for each additional item, or whatever numbers you need. In this method you will need to charge for the customers that are furthest from you and you will be overcharging customers who live closer to you. Or you can figure out the amount for mid range distances, then you will gain a bit on closer orders and lose a bit on orders further away, but over time it should average out.

For foreign orders, you will have to figure out a rate for each individual foreign country you ship to.
