Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

I recently created a new listing using the new GUI Interface. My listing was for two items, and each was listed as a variation. There is a small price differential for each option. The listing was intended to include only one item of each variation; therefore, two items in total. The new interface did not include a column to list the number of items of each type. I changed the screen to the old interface, and it also omitted that number of items column. In the quantity box, I put 2 items for sale.

A returning customer just purchased two items from this listing. I am sure he intended to get one item of each option. But, the sale order shows a quantity of two for one variation (the higher-priced option). He was only overcharged a couple of dollars. I have not yet contacted him to explain the problem. He is a very good customer, and I'm sure he'll understand the snafu, but I do not want to have to explain anything. One way to resolve this issue is to cancel the sale. That would involve issuing refunds for the purchase price, the taxes, and the shipping costs, and crediting his credit card for the entire amount. Then he would have to reorder, which may end up with the same problem. This is a huge and cumbersome process; for me, but more importantly, for the customer.

I have other new listings with several options to create, and I am more-or-less forced to use the New & Improved GUI. THIS ISSUED NEED TO BE ADDRESSED!!!

Plus, and this is a small but important matter . . . the little sales digital counter on my shop that registers the number of sales I have made should have increased by two but it only went up by one. Like I said, a small matter, but important to me.

Buying qty of the same listing is considered by etsy to be 1 sale.

buying 1 of 2 different variations would = 2 sales.

IT's the way etsy has always counted sales on the shop front.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

Thank you for your response. The issue is that there was not two of each item, only one of each item.

But thanks for the info. Etsy works in strange and mysterious ways.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

yes, but it listed it wrongly, so it showed qty 2 of 1 variation, and was bought, thereby, etsy sees it as the same listing bought twice = 1 sale.

I was simply replying to that part of your post, because I don't have the new listing format and cannot help with that.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

Are you saying that, once you tried out the new listing form, you're no longer able to use the "quantities vary" on either the old or new listing forms?
If that's the case, and you only have one of each size, you'll need to keep the entire listing's quantity at 1 until you can get some answers from support.

Have you tried starting to list a brand new item in the old listing form to see if you're still unable to use that feature?

Like @CappuccinoLace said, your sales count will only go up by one if you sell multiples of the same item in an order.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

Hey thanks for responding.

Yes, there is no "Quantities" column for each variation on the new form, and when I revert to the old form, that "Quantities" column is no longer there. I can view old listings (created prior to the New and Improved GUI) and it shows the quantities for the various options, and as each variation sells the quantity for that variation goes to zero and the buyer's GUI shows the item as "Sold Out" while still offering the ones that have not yet sold.

I currently have another listing posted with 5 variations (created with the new form) that I changed to "Inactive" for fear of another bungled sale. Your idea of changing the quantities to 1 sounds promising, and I appreciate your help, but I'm afraid to keep that listing active until I have more info. This is a serious issue.

EDIT TO ADD   The new listing form does not include a colum to indicate the number of items of each variation, There is only a box showing the total number of items available, and that box has a required red star that does not let you finish the listing, or preview the listing, or even save the listing as draft.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

That's a major problem, I agree. Having tried out the new form should not remove properties from the old form...

No quantities on variations would completely disrupt my shop. (I haven't seen the new listing format yet.)

Have you contacted Etsy about this? You're just writing to other sellers here.

Adding: when I say "disrupt," I mean it. Changes to my inventory numbers here directly affect my inventory numbers on my own site, as they are synced.

@MicroDesign360  , Duplicate/copy an old listing with variations and change the details. I haven't made a listing from scratch in years, by doing this I don't have to reenter info that I put in every listing.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

I searched the entire Etsy help interface and I could not find how to directly speak to them about my problem. The robo-help interface just leads me to several pre-formated Q&A sort of things about generic issues, none of which seem to apply in this instance. I am a fairly high-tech sort of person, but this is very frustrating. I posted this topic on the forum in the hope that some official Etsy personnel would stumble across it and suggest some sort of solution, or maybe even address the New & Improved listing forms. I think the new form is a beta testing sort of thing and I was selected to be one of the testing Guinea pigs. Quite an honor, I suppose.

ADDED   'Disrupt' is a very polite way to describe the currrent situation.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

I believe they are slowly rolling out the new listing form -- we will all have it at some point.
There have been many complaints about it here for month or so.

As far as contacting Etsy "directly:"
There should be a chat icon on your shop manager page, because you're a star seller. However, you might want to try the chat directly through the help pages, if you can find a "I still need help" prompt. I have found that team to be more helpful than the one you access through the star seller method.

I was trying very hard to think of a polite word -- disrupt was what I came up with.  : )

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

Thanks for the info regarding starting a chat. I've never clicked on that little icon in the lower right-hand corner before.

I initiated a chat by copy-and-pasting my first OP in this thread. It was a little difficult because the chat window is very small and cannot be expanded. Plus, it had a definite robo feeling about it, and it informed me that all available technicians are currently busy, and they'll get back to me as soon as they can. At least the convo has started. We'll see.

EDIT  Discretion is an admirable characteristic to have.

Right there at the top you can send feedback.

You can also switch to the old form rither there at the top.

I have switched to the old and given Etsy my reasons.

If you want to go further to send an email use Contact us under Community.

And please to help the rest of us, use the common terms we all use.  That helps all of us understand what you are referring to.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

Okay, I think I was the one who made a mistake.

On the new GUI seller forms in the section for variations, there is a box to check that states "Quantities vary by option", and I did not check that box. There was another box in that section that states "Prices vary by option", and that was the only box I checked. Dang!

So it seems that this problem has resolved itself. Thank you to everyone who responded with comments and suggestions, and I apologize for any inconvenience I may have caused.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

It would be better if Etsy provided a button or settings option to choose between the default old listing form or the new listing form. I prefer the old listing form, it's much better and easier on the eyes.

Re: Serious Problem with New & Improved GUI

@ThePixelNThings  The old form is gone as of June 25th, so there's no point providing that.
