My seller account was hacked. Someone put in new checking account information and is now going to receive my payments. I can't update the banking information because i have to enter their account number and i obviously don't know it lol. I've started a chat with ETSY and nothing came of it. Told me to wait for an email. I'm at a loss and freaking out.
@FabioMcMustache Can you direct her issue to the right department?
@AlleghenyAveDesigns I'm so sorry you are going through this.
I need someone with the capability to take out their banking information so i can re-enter mine. I am not receiving emails from etsy either. And phone calls to customer service got me no where.
" I've started a chat with ETSY and nothing came of it. Told me to wait for an email."
DEAR GOD THIS IS SO ABSURD (AND SCARY) TO KEEP HEARING THIS!
If you can still get into your account, you can go to your Payment Account & change the deposit schedule to monthly. That should at least delay any funds from going into a different account.
I was able to push the payment schedule out until July 3rd. I also changed my password and did two factor authentication. It still won’t let me update banking information unless I enter the whole account number
I'm so sorry. Go into Shop Dashboard > Security. Under the Sign Ins, Sign OUT anyone who is not you.
Contact your bank immediately. Run virus check on all of your devices.
Report this cyber crime to police, action fraud.
Close your store, delete all your items before closing, that is what I would do
I have 8 orders in queue. I put it in vacation mode for the time being so no new orders can be placed
the hackers have your bank account number.
they would not be able to change it.
without knowing it.
how do you think they got it.
did you click on weird links recently.
and check your email for suspicious log ins... or attempts to log in.
because if they have access to your email.
they can read emails or delete emails from etsy.
etsy notifies us by email when changes take place on our accounts.
Youre right. I didn't think that they would need my bank account information to change it. But you do. I haven't clicked on any weird links and have since changed my email password. They verified through Plaid, I thought your bank account name had to match what name was on file for your store?
This has to either be someone you know who actually has that info OR someone has somehow gained access to it. They could have gotten your bank account number from any check you have written as it is printed right on the check. IF you write someone a check and they know you have an Etsy account--they would STILL need your password to access the account and change things.
The other way is a keystroke logger on your computer. This usually is picked up by clicking on links. That link might be anywhere in an email supposedly from a friend, on social media sites, even here on Etsy.
Contact Etsy.
Thank you! They called me right away, said there is nothing they can do and to wait for an email. I don't understand why they can't take out that persons bank account information and let me re-verify through Plaid with my original information. I have over $500 sitting on Etsy and I need access to it to fulfill my current orders.
Check your credit report. Someone may have stolen your identity to open a fraudulent checking account so your Etsy funds can be redirected.
This happened to me last month. My Etsy shop wasn't affected but the thief tried to open a checking account, 2 credit cards and they applied for two loans in my name. The idiots used my address too. I don't know how they thought I wouldn't notice. LOL I have Experian Identityworks and I was alerted 2 days after a credit inquiry was done. I ended up dealing with that crap for about a month. I now have a fraud alert on my credit report.
And yes, I did grumble about 2FA in another post. I changed my Etsy password as soon as I found out about hte identity theft. I know I need to set up 2FA but I also know from personal experience that it's sometimes a PITA.
