I recently finished a digital logo commission and provided the client two links with the same files in a pdf. One for Google drive and one for Dropbox so they could use what they prefer.
You don’t have to log in to access the files or download them either.
But this morning I received alarming news from the client that they received a warning saying the information that they downloaded has been linked to identity theft software.
My files and PC are clean and when I opened the links on my end in a different browser I didn’t receive a warning. I also reassured the client that it was only design and image files that were sent, they seemed fine and just were warning me it popped up. I’ve bought digital downloads too myself and I never received a warning from a link to access the files.
Is there any reason this could happen? Was it just a browser warning telling them to be cautious of scams? Is there a way I can prevent this?
It’s frustrating because I don’t want this to happen in the future and scare my customers.
I don’t know why Etsy cannot provide us a platform where we can provide larger and more file types….
I suspect the buyer has some very tight controls on their computer and/or browser. I don't think there is anything connected to Etsy here. If the buyer was using a company's software or hardware it could be their controls. Law firms are notorious for this. Some don't even allow attachments to be sent in emails for fear of virus' and such.
Most of the time I have downloaded an Etsy purchase from Google drive the same warning appears, is normal. I just ignore it and proceed with download. Mostly 3d files, because they are too bigs to download trough Etsy. Seems your customer is new downloading files.

Thank you both! I figured this was the case, I’ve just never seen it on my end so I go super worried.
