Search Engines

When searching my shop on Google, it will show up on the initial page but under shopping none of my listings are visible.  Even if I copy and paste the title of a listing and my shop name under the Google shopping tab, it does not show up.  Does this mean I am de-indexed?

Etsy chat was no help.  Thanks!

@RandMTreasure: "Does this mean I am de-indexed?" You can check to see if you are indexed or not by searching within your own shop.

Google (or any other search engine) search and Etsy search are not related. If you have listings visible in your shop homepage then it is up to Google to decide if they wish to follow the links to the individual listings and if they wish to index them.

Re: Search Engines

Thank you, that makes sense.

Any idea how to get my listings visible in Google Shopping again?  Or why they disappeared in the first place?  I had one listing that was a best seller and organically first in Google searches for years and now it is gone.

Re: Search Engines

@RandMTreasure: FIrst off, you must take the mindset that it is NOT your listing in Google search or Google Shopping, it is Etsy's listing of your item. I believe that a shop now needs to be enrolled in Offsite Ads for Etsy to include any listings associated with that shop in Google Shopping, etc. And as Google SEO rules change a listings placement will also change.

Re: Search Engines

Thank you, yes, I have been enrolled in Etsy Offsite Ads since the beginning.  Yes, I understand it is Etsy’s listing.  So any idea how to get Etsy’s listings of my items visible in Google shopping again?  SEO and placement is one thing, Etsy’s listings of my items are not visible at all in the search.  They are not there even when searching verbatim with the title.

Re: Search Engines

"under shopping none of my listings are visible" - are you enrolled in Offsite Ads? That's the only way to show up in Google Shopping now.

If you are enrolled in Offsite Ads, make sure your items comply with Google's policies & best optimization practices. For example, the listings I looked at had the title repeated as the first part of the description - that's bad for Google, Etsy, and for the buyer experience.

I'm not in the US so I can't check Shopping for you, but definitely have a few other people do that, just to be sure. We all see different things.

Re: Search Engines

Thank you, Cindylouwho2.  While I rarely post in the forums, I do check in often and appreciate your commentary and insight.

Yes, I am enrolled in Etsy Offsite Ads and have been since the beginning.

As far as having the title repeated at the beginning of the description, I have always done this, sometimes with subtle differences.  I have found that the title is never fully visible so repeating the information at the beginning of the description is beneficial, especially for vintage where the description is often hidden.

Over the 6 years I have had my shop, I have worked hard on my SEOs and up until last month had numerous listings in the top searches under Google Shopping without paying for ads.

So now all of a sudden my listings are no longer seen, I am wondering what has changed and why all 600+ of my listings are invisible.  What can I do to correct this?

Re: Search Engines

@RandMTreasure thank you for your kind words!

Definitely have someone in the US check if they can find you in Google Shopping. I've often seen people unable to find their own items, but others can see them. Also, check if and when your Offsite Ads views stopped, as the timing could give you a clue as to what happened.

If you can verify that you have been removed from Google Shopping, then definitely double check their rules. Did you make any changes recently?

Repeating the title in the description is bad for Google SEO, and has been bad for Etsy search since May 2022. I can guarantee you it is hurting you here now. Whether Google has done anything about that is almost impossible to say, but my experience with Google Shopping is that breaking the rules is often fine until it isn't. Write the key info up in a natural sounding sentence, not a cut & paste of the whole title.

"up until last month had numerous listings in the top searches under Google Shopping without paying for ads" - you don't pay for Etsy or Google Ads to be seen in Google Shopping. Etsy pays that, and only charges you an Offsite Ads fee when you make a sale.

If you truly have been removed, ask Etsy for help, although Support doesn't know much any more, so that probably won't succeed. They sometimes used to tell shops when they had prohibited words or images that were getting them booted from Google Shopping.

Re: Search Engines

Thank you, I will have someone check.  No changes lately.

I did contact Etsy chat today for help, I was told I needed to purchase Etsy Ads in order to be seen and received cut and paste responses.  They did say they will send the info to their team for review.

My last Offsite Ad Fee was in July.  The only thing that changed and was close to that time frame (mid June) was that I had 10-15 listings deactivated by a bot for “drug paraphernalia.” I went through Etsy chat and all the listings were reinstated within a few days.

Re: Search Engines

@RandMTreasure Obviously Chat did not understand the question. Etsy Ads have nothing to do with Google Shopping. Make it clear you have vanished from Offsite Ads (if you have - check the actual clicks from EOA, not just fees)

All of my "drug" removals were reinstated without me doing anything; it is doubtful Chat actually helped you with that. But it is possible those items were never reindexed to Google Shopping.

Re: Search Engines

@cindylouwho2  Yes, Etsy Chat was clueless and I went in circles explaining Etsy ads has nothing to do with Etsy Offsite Ads and Google Shopping.

SEO for the last 30 days is down 52% but is accounting for 26% of my visits.

I am being seen on an initial Google search as well as under Images, but not under the Shopping tab.

For example, one of my listings is the first under the link that Etsy offers “Check out our selection for the very best in unique or custom, handmade pieces” as well as first under the Images tab, but nowhere to be found under the Shopping tab.

Not sure if this can be fixed, I just know that I was able to find my listings under Shopping in the past.

@RandMTreasure "SEO for the last 30 days is down 52% but is accounting for 26% of my visits." - SEO includes organic; again, you need to look on the Offsite Ads page for clicks from that program.

The other places are organic; Google Shopping tab is Offsite Ads. It's completely separate, and Etsy has to choose to pay for you to show up there. There are no exceptions. Etsy does stop paying for listings/shops they don't find profitable enough (but we don't know that for sure in your case because we are currently only going on you not seeing your own listings, which happens sometimes. You have to prove no one else can see them, and that no clicks are coming it, which you still haven't done.)

When you have conclusively shown you have been removed, then it is time to clean up the listings and open another ticket with the concise facts. Always keep it very simple and clear when dealing with Support.
