Have received 2 messages (& emails) from Etsy Support today, a Annabelle & a Rachelle, requesting verification via QR code. A buyer paid for my product, and I need the verification to get the funds. I know its a scam, wanting to warn others. I wish I could include photos to show what it looks like. I also wish for Etsy to acknowledge & send warnings of these scams.
Many sellers have also received the same scam messages as you have. The forum has been inundated with posts about it since the summer. We've seen c/p's of the messages and the different versions of them, too. Etsy is aware and is deleting those scam accounts but they keep popping up.
Put those two in your spam folder, along with any others you may receive sooner or later.
Did you see the warning on your Dashboard Message page - ''How to spot and report scams in Messages.'' ?
Here's one Announcement posted in August --
Protect Your Account From Scammers - Welcome to the Etsy Community
etsy just doesnt care
yes. it shouldnt even get to our inbox
it doesn't get to the "from etsy" folder
My Android phone and Etsy apps seem to be different than from the web. I see no folders, see no "from Esty" special mark, can't report as spam. It took quite an effort to finally report one of them.
There us a big bright yellow/orange highlighted warning in messages,
it tells you about scams, and says if the message isn't also in the "from etsy" folder, it's not from etsy.
It is there, on every message, until you click to say you have read it,
If you clicked to make it go away, and didn't read it, it is here
it doesnt matter if its in the "from etsy" folder or not.
its trash energy, which is there, in our shop manager already.
etsy should ban specific ip address or whole regions, or give us the "disable private messages" feature, but they dont care at all.
we, like most countries, have dynamic IP addressing, mine changes at least once a week, so that won't work,
and what will you do, to ban a region? ban all of American sellers accounts, because some American accounts have sent some phishing messages?
none of the above is workable.
It does absolutely matter if it's in the "From Etsy" folder, don't give out false information, it's bad enough already
