Etsy charged customer sales tax on a silver coin which is tax exempt in both my state and his. He's asking me to refund the sales tax. I'm getting no help from Etsy agents.
Etsy remits sales tax to states for sales, you never get it as part of your payment. You can try explaining that to him, although if he's irritated, he may not care! If he's threatening, maybe try to make it easy for him to contact Etsy by sending him a link to request a sales tax refund.
You do not get the sales tax, so you would not be able to refund it yourself. If Etsy isn't helping you, your buyer may need to contact them directly unfortunately. You could send the buyer a link to the help center contact page.
Okay, thank you for the suggestion. He's threatening to leave a bad review if I don't refund, so I was trying to get around having him contact Etsy. But, he may have to.

Coins are subject to taxation. Aare you both sure your states are exempt? Missouri for example it depends on how the coins are classified.
He would need to speak with Etsy who actually is pretty good about taxes.
There appears to be an exemption for bullion (at least in Missouri). Is that what you are claiming?
