why is there a lock on my star seller? Why has my star seller rating not changed for several months despite only 5-star reviews?
Because 4* or under ratings are NOT calculated in the %.
ONLY the 5* reviews are counted.
To qualify for the star in June, Etsy uses the past 3 months, March, April and May to determine if you qualify or not
Come July, then March drops off and Etsy uses April, May and June.
It's very clear on the help pages.
How to Become a Star Seller – Etsy Help
Your 5-star rating percentage is calculated by dividing the number of reviews that have 5 stars by the total number of ratings that you've received during the calculation period. Other reviews (like those with 4 stars) are not considered. We aren’t looking at an average of all ratings, only the percentage of ratings that have 5 stars.
You have a 4 star review from April 28.
My reviews have been 5 stars and yet my star seller badge keeps me at 86%
You have one 4 star from March and one 4 star review from April.
But I shouldn't, it was all 5 stars. It only shows 86% so far on seller reviews, despite all 5 stars this month
It's not just for the current month.
There is a section spelling out the criteria in your shop manager.
I thought that every month was a new overall rating - it's been stuck, like something is wrong. And why is there a lock on the badge?
What is this "lock" ? Do you see that on your Star Seller page?
Star Seller ONLY counts the 5-star reviews. Anything less counts as zero - we knew this from the beginning, and knew it was unfair.
It's not the same average like in your Shop reviews where a 4-star counts for 80%.
For every 4-star review, you need another 19 5-star ones - in a 3 month rating period (now including March, April, May for the June star rating) - to bring it up to 95%.
How could one 4 star pull down the percentage to 86%?
Because 4* or under ratings are NOT calculated in the %.
ONLY the 5* reviews are counted.

The current period for June SSB is Mar. Apr. and May. During that period, you have 3 less than 5 stars.
3 stars on March 8
4 stars on March 24
4 stars on April 28
You had a total of 21 reviews during that period
21 divided into 18 = 85% roughly
For that 3 month period, you would have had to have 57 5 stars to counterattack the 3 less than 5 stars. It takes 19 5 stars to 1 less than 5 to make 95%.
For July 1 SSB you will lose the 2 March reviews but you will keep the April one so for July 1 you need 19 5 stars and no more less than 5.
Thank you, I have trouble understanding because of my brain health issues, thank you for your patience. - Kaye
For the June Star Seller Badge, Etsy uses your stats from the months of March, April & May.
For the July badge, Etsy will use your stats from April, May & June - June is considered the month for shops to 'improve' their stats.
For shops with hundreds of sales, overcoming a 4 Star review is easier. For lower volume shops, it is harder.
Math wise - 20 reviews - all 5 star = 100%; 20 reviews - one 4 star = 5% of reviews, your review stat is 95% but you get the badge
20 reviews - two 4 star = 10% of your reviews so your stats go down to 90% = you do not earn the star seller badge.
Etsy has given 4 Star reviews the same weight as a 1 Star review, plain and simple.
Ahhh, got it - thank you
The lock symbol is on my star, when I go into shop manager, then click on star seller, in there is a lock symbol on my star
Yes, the locked star is on my star seller page (PillowDetails)
@BohoStyleMe - I see what you are saying. Shop Manager to Star Seller & in the upper right corner is a purple star, but it has a padlock displayed by it.
I have seen other threads where it has been mentioned that Etsy does not necessarily take the last day, even the last two or three days into account when awarding the badge. I have no idea if this statement is correct. But if it is, maybe since today is a holiday, tomorrow the last day of the month, Etsy has "locked" the stats review period already?
I'll keep checking in on the star seller section and see if I notice any changes.
Thank you, but this has been this way for months
