Why does Etsy mark my stores response down in the following situation? I bought from a Etsy store and after my purchase I get a automatic reply from the store on if I need help with the download please get in touch. I did not respond because I didn't need help help but my response went from 100 to 50%. It is the only message in the past 2 months I have not responded to. How does that have anything to do with my own business response? Thanks
The Star Seller criteria is very clear. You must reply to ALL messages or mark as spam.
It's not an automatic message
The seller deliberately messaged you
etsy says reply to each new message thread, or mark as spam, so you have to.
....
Etsy doesn't know the content of the message, the seller could have had your shop come up on their radar when you purchased, and they are now asking about something in you shop they want to buy.
Unless etsy ups our fees immensely, to hire people to read millions of messages a day, to see if they are about something we bought, or want to buy, then they will do it the current way.
Etsy is very clear
reply to each new message thread, or mark as spam.
@CrystalSageBoutique: "How does that have anything to do with my own business response?" Nothing, but unfortunately Etsy has been very clear that you need to reply to (or mark as SPAM) the FIRST message of EVERY NEW INCOMING THREAD within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else.
Your Star Seller page even specifically states that "This applies to messages both from buyer and seller accounts." under the section 'What messages count towards the message response rate?'.
Once you open a shop on any etsy account then that account is considered a seller account and all star seller bits will apply. The only way to have a "personal account" that isn't linked to your shop or star seller stuff is to open a completely new account and make purchases with that one.
