Hi Etsy team,
Like many other sellers, I offer personalized products that require buyers to send me a file, in my case, a photo. Unfortunately, the current process for doing this is often confusing and inefficient, both for customers and for sellers.
Despite including clear instructions in my listing descriptions and images, I regularly receive messages from potential buyers asking how to send their photo. Even after completing a purchase, many customers take extra steps to identify their order when sending the file separately, worried that it might not be correctly matched.
From the buyer’s perspective, the current flow can feel disjointed, they’re asked to complete payment first, then navigate back to the shop to send a message. Without a direct link between their order and the file they want to provide, some might give up entirely, which likely impacts conversions.
One idea that could improve this experience would be to offer an option to upload a file during checkout, ideally as part of the personalization step. This would make the process more intuitive, reduce the risk of errors, and save time for both buyers and sellers.
I imagine a feature like this could enhance overall satisfaction while helping everyone involved, customers, shop owners, and the platform alike.
Thanks so much for considering this suggestion, and for all the work you do to support the seller community.
Warm regards,
Charles

I would vote for this!!!
Devil's Advocate here...
Sounds logical but the problem is server space/cost to store the uploaded files, and potential viruses in those files. I can understand Etsy (or anybody) not wanting to offer this directly. When does a file expire on the server? Seven days after upload? Does Etsy want to deal with tardy and p'd off sellers when a needed file was deleted? Does it want to get into providing 'your file xxx will be deleted tomorrow' emails, and if so how does it (or does it) handle a terrifying 'waitttt' response from a seller? A myriad of issues, none helping Etsy.
Now what Etsy could do is contract with a cloud provider to offer a direct link to upload the file, with the files stored in folders bearing the order number. Then the problem becomes the cloud providers. But expect to pay for that convenience. What if Etsy offered this but for each file uploaded your shop was charged $1? Still as interesting an option?
Those buyers who can't figure out 'email me your file to 'xxx@yyy.com' after ordering should not really be using a computer.
