Request Custom Order from a mobile isn't available

Apparently, the option to "request a custom order" is NOT available from a mobile, either Android or iPhone.
A customer wanted an item I sell made much larger, and asked me about it via normal Etsy messages. I was willing and able to do it, but it would require additional material, etc. AND additional shipping cost for me with my free shipping. So, I told her it would be a certain price which she agreed.
However, when she went to "request custom order" from her phone, that option was not available from the Etsy app. It was not even available when she tried to go to etsy.com in her browser. She did not have access to a laptop or tablet. I tried as well on an Android phone and iPhone.
After messing with this for over an hour, I simply told her she could just order the regular one, but I would make and ship her the larger version for the regular size price.
This cost me over $10. Basically, I will not make hardly any $$ on this sell. I didn't want to lose a customer over something completely out of her control or mine.
This is unacceptable, with the Etsy fees going up every year. It would be a SIMPLE addition to the app.
Why has Etsy completely ignored such a simple request.
From reading the forums, I know I am not the only one, and that this has been an issue for YEARS.

If there is, in fact, a way to do this, then solution is not an easy one to find, much less use.

@SplinteredWheel any first time message from a customer should show the "create custom order" option on your end.

Not sure how any of that has to do with you losing money on a sale.  I'm probably not understanding your issue, sorry.

On the mobile Buyer app, there is a Contact button at the top of a shop, and every listing has a Message Seller button.

You're right, there is no custom request button, but again - it's not needed.  You should see the option in your messages, if you have custom enabled in your shop.

We were both on the mobile app. I was out eating out with my wife. This option is not available on the app, nor available when using the browser on a phone. So she couldn't request a custom order, nor could I create a custom order from her message from the app or browser on my phone.
So instead of losing the sale, I said she could just order the one I have in my store, and at the listed price.. and I would make and ship her the customized one. The custom was going to be $10 more, which I lost because of this. May not sound like much, but that is not the point. 
That option should be available in the app or on a mobile device... period.

With the Custom Order process being so flawed, many sellers are just making a regular listing marked Reserved in the title. That way the shop policies can be included as well as images, shipping profile etc. Avoids having to create custom listing, and editing it after to include the pertinent info. You spend the 20 cents eventually when the listing sells.

Why didn't you make her a regular listing for the item she wanted?  Forward her the link and she could purchase at the correct price.  It is an easy solution if it happens again.

Very poorly designed. I share your frustration. This is a messed up process for people on the app, and no way to do it from the way you describe. All the tag does is insert some text.

Etsy just needs to issue a fully working app otherwise just rely on the desktop/ browser version
