Yesterday I renewed 4 Vintage Santa items. I didn't see them right away so I waited an hour or so. Checked again. Nothing. I remembered the listings that were showing on the search page when I did the renewal so I could expect my renewed listing would eventually show somewhere near them. This morning I had to look through 75 PAGES of search and still NOTHING. My tags are appropriate and should produce the listings. Yet they are not showing.
I paid for these renewals, so I expect to see them somewhere in the Most Recent category. Just like old times, before they changed algorithms.
I also have many favorites on these items (Like upwards of 80+), and yet they aren't showing up in MOST LOVED either like they used to.??
I recently lowered my shipping costs, per suggestion from Etsy, because I noticed they had disappeared from the searches. This didn't help either. Listings just aren't showing. I've scanned over 75 pages of searches. So what's actually going on? Is this happening to anyone else?
Here's hoping, I'm at a a loss.
What search terms did you enter? We can check our search results and give you accurate reports about your listings' visibility. Searching one's own listings over and over does not yield an accurate account of listing visibility. Search results are based on one's search history and are personalized. Also, searching over and over without making a purchase tells the algorithm that you are not interested in those listings. The search will adjust to try and show you more desirable listings, so if you ever happen to see your own listings, you're telling the search not to show them to you anymore.
Better to ask neutral parties to search and report their results to you.
@santashauntedboot: You need to give up on the concept of Etsy search providing the results that you expect. Are the listings showing up in your shop? If yes, then they are indexed (and you can always check by searching within your own shop).
Keep in mind that if everyone on this forum searched for the exact same phrase they would all get different results. Because of "personalized searches" you can NOT rely on anyone's search results to define how your listing is ranked. There are many many factors that affect listing placement and the relative weight of each factor probably changes constantly. Even exact word matches to your title no longer ensure that you will appear in search.
Etsy is proud of the fact that they provide search results which they think you will actually purchase regardless of what you actually searched for.
"Even exact word matches to your title no longer ensure that you will appear in search."
That is exactly what I'm referring to and that also makes ZERO sense. Why would exact phrases not produce the listing in the search option?
Keyword matching is part of the algorithm, because factors like listing desirability (reviews and past sales) and photo quality count for much, much more than exact word matches.

The search changed its default results setting from "Most Recent" to "Most Relevant" in 2018. The algorithm still evaluates and ranks listings within its "Most Recent" results. Results are not purely chronologically based. Photo quality is still a weighty factor in recency search results.
Yes, I am aware the default is set to Relevant. However, typically after I renew an item, it will appear in the most recent section shortly after renewal. It didn't.?

That makes even less sense that they're NOT SHOWING UP because I've sold MANY of these and they have great reviews for them..??? So the new algorithm makes ZERO sense. And there's still the problem of me not seeing any of these when I renewed my listings. So, I have no clue as to why or what's going on?
Here is one of many renewals that did not appear after renewal:
Vintage Santa Claus Stand Up Bank Advertising Cut Out UNUSED Christmas Club Gift Card Ornament Holiday Display Winter Decor Old Collectible
Also, I was ALWAYS able to see my renewals in the search category of "MOST RECENT" after being renewed. Even if it took a little while to show up. I never had any issues until recently.
I just searched for
Vintage Santa Claus Stand up
and your listing was in the second spot in my search results.
Thank you for checking, I truly appreciate that. Out of curiosity, was it in the "Most Recent" category, or the "Relevant"?
I ask only because I had renewed the listing yesterday, and it didn't show up for me in the "Most Recent."
I searched on the phone app and that was whatever the default is. I don't use the most recent or whatever category search.
Since its a santa/christmas item it's possible that many like items are being listed right now and quickly cycling through most recent perhaps.
Ok, so likely the Most Relevant. Thats the default setting for the Etsy searches. That is helpful. Thank you.
It's not showing on my end of Most Relevant on the desktop, but I didn't try to app.
I noticed it wasn't showing in the Most Recent, and that concerns me. Since I had recently renewed it the day before. And it wasn't anywhere in sight. Going 75 search pages back.
