I am receiving notifications on phone from my Etsy Seller app for a store that I do not own. For 24 hrs I have been getting notifications regarding their customer messages, favorites, orders, reviews etc. I looked up the shop to notify the owner because it baffled me. He replied right away, saying he is also getting MY notifications. It is a serious privacy concern for me now. For weeks I had been noticing new messages I would get were marked read when I had never read them. I figured it was a glitch or I accidentally opened them, but now I’m concerned this has been going on for a while.
Please know we take the privacy and security of our members very seriously. We’ve forwarded your concerns to our support escalations team, and your case is being worked on as we speak, so please check your email/messages as they will be reaching out to you directly.
Due to the sensitive nature of this case, we’re closing this thread so we can work with the affected parties directly.
Thank you!
Contact Etsy support immediately and tell the person to do the same.
Errr...WHAT???? OMG I can't imagine the chaos this could easily create on SO many levels.
Have you tried logging out/back in of the app?
It looks like you might be a star seller - I would get on the chat support immediately and just sit there until it was resolved. There's simply no way that these streams should cross for privacy reasons - heck, even for corporate espionage reasons. Most of the time, similar shop names sell the same thing - can you imagine if one seller could see another's customer database?
@moonbeamgifts You better believe it. Another privacy concern, and a rather large one.
@ClaireNilanArt Definitely contact Etsy; this makes zero sense.
In addition, maybe you would also like to "at" Admin HerrMoostache. He is one Admin who has posted in other Threads where Sellers have Hacked Accounts.
ETA: You have a large privacy concern. If it's happening to you and the other Seller, there may be people affected as well.
Posts in tech support for updates a lot - maybe they could help escalate this serious concern?
I remember something similar happening a few years back. You will have to contact Etsy about this as it is probably some kind of programming glitch.
Thank you everyone for the speedy replies. I unfortunately don’t have chat support but I emailed Etsy and it says it could take 24 hours for a reply. I also don’t have any suspicious logins from other devices or locations. @HerrMoostache
Do you have Twitter? I've heard of people getting almost instant responses from reaching out via that avenue. I wouldn't put a ton of information in the message if it's public but enough to get a response that this is a serious issue and needs to be addressed.
Thank you @moonbeamgifts I appreciate your help with this!! I just tweeted Etsy. Fingers crossed for a reply soon.
Ironically, the reason I’m not a star seller and don’t have Chat support now is because several new messages were marked read (I suspect due to this exact issue) and I did not get a reply to them within 24 hours.
@ClaireNilanArt I see where you tried to "at" Admin HerrMoostache (above). But I don't think it will alert him; there is not a line under your Tag (I've made this mistake before; just had the "at" symbol with their name).
When you "at" someone, you begin typing the "at" symbol followed by their name. But you must select their name from the drop down menu for the line to appear under the name. That way he or someone else you Tag can see the Notification which states you "atted" him.
I'll go ahead and do it for you.
@FabioMcMustache Can you please help the OP. Major privacy concern. Receiving Notifications for Messages meant for another Etsy Seller. Thank You in advance.
@ChillwolfArt is HerrMoostache a "he"? I always thought it was a she! Sorry this is off topic but I just had to ask. Guess it is not really important , except to s/he.
@ThePurplePuppy I always thought a gentleman.
@ThePurplePuppy Herr is german for Mr.
Yes, I know--I am of German etnicity. I just always thought the avatar looked feminine and thought the name might be an Etsy "inside joke". I mean by that I am really NOT a "purplepuppy". LOL
I mean...you can go to his profile and his "shop" to see more pictures.
Guess so, thank you. I really don;t have time to do that--and I really don;t have time to be here either--I need to be working but am slacking off today! LOL
Being lazy, I guess.
@eireanneilis and Swedish.
Thank you @chillwolfart for all your help too. I hope I can get an answer on this soon. I don't know why the dropdown to @ tag someone is not working for me. I tried typing out fully/partially/waiting patiently with no luck. Oh well!
You're Welcome. Hope you get this addressed and soon (the other Seller as well).
Sometimes when I'm typing the "at" symbol followed by a Name, I won't receive the drop down for some people who are in that Thread and who I wish to address. In that case, I type the name exactly how it appears followed by a "Return". This will put a line under that person's name as well (so they get the Notification Alert).
With Admin HerrMoostache, I received the drop down menu and selected his name. But putting a full Return after the "at" Name should work.
I'm really sorry I forgot to mention that above.
Oh no, that is horrible. I mentioned it to my husband and he said some developer made a ************ big mistake. The "authorization" process is messed up.
@ThePurplePuppy - I too remember the problem from a few years ago. I think one a US shop, the other in France?
And when you think of the further chaos that could be created now. Between star seller stats & help requests. Who ends up receiving any help requests?
Hoping this is gets straightened out stat.
@JMOldeVintage Yes, I am not sure but maybe 4 or 5 years ago? And actually I think it ended up affecting more than 2 sellers.
I hope Etsy takes this seriously!!!
@DragonflyDreams1
well that doesn't sound good!
