Rating problem due to lack of electricity

Yesterday I was supposed to send two parcels 29.11.2024. I did it. But since Russia resumed shelling our energy sector. I had no internet all day. I couldn't enter the track numbers on Etsy

The electricity came back this morning and I did it. 30.11.2024
But it was marked in red that it had to be done yesterday.

And I began to understand that because of this situation, I wouldn't be a star salesperson for three months.

Please tell me. Is there anything I can do about this? Or do I now have to wait three months for my reputation to be restored?

@NeraJewelryUA I can't even begin to imagine what you're dealing with in your country. One would think that Etsy would / could / should take such situations into consideration ... the same as they seem to be more lenient when there's VERY bad weather (or hurricanes in unexpected places!) here in the U.S.

You mean like .... keeping commerce human?

That would be fabulous.

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

Etsy has said that under no circumstances will any rating be changed for any reason.    It is unfortunate but if it makes you feel any better, many sellers say they do better without the star seller badge so I don't know that it will really matter in the long run.    If you wish to return to the program, you might want to extend your shipping times and not run them so close to the edge of the dates just in case of internet, power or weather issues.

Be safe, please.

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

@moonbeamgifts The one SS benefit that always comes to mind is that Etsy says Star Sellers will not be subject to a payment account reserve.

https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058722214-What-is-a-Payment-Account-Reserve

Star Seller is also a search filter but if shoppers don't understand what it is (even with the explanations next to the stars), it may not be something they think to filter on.

@PrairiePrimitives

I'm sure if they wanted to, Etsy would slap a payment reserve on a shop even if they were SS.   When you make the rules, you can either create or close the loopholes.

I believed at one point, Etsy had claimed SS would factor into search placement - perhaps that's the sorting feature, perhaps not.    Either way, search is so fundamentally broken that I doubt it matters either way.

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

I wouldn't worry about a badge on your shop,

it didn't make any difference to my shop when I lost it for 3 months, because I had a 1 star review on my knitting pattern

that said they couldn't use it, because they couldn't knit

just try and stay safe.

I nearly drowned in my tea!

Sorry, I can't stop laughing. Not at you getting the poor review, but the logically challenged person who left it!

And to think they probably have the right to vote, drive and raise children. I sometimes think our species is doomed.

At least they don't knit 3 armed sweaters!

I didn't actually reply to the review, because I just couldn't think of anything to say, that wouldn't have sounded condescending

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

I don't want to start any political discussion here. I had a electricity problem that prevented me from entering the track number in time(I sent the parcel on time)  I contacted Etsy technical support about this problem. With such a question. And is it possible to change the shipping date one day back considering this situation

The consultant in the chat gave me a link to this forum and asked me to describe the problem here (Although I don't even know what this is for anymore)

I just need an answer from tech support whether it's possible to do something about this or not

If not, I will continue to work and try not to make such mistakes in the next three months to become a star seller again.

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

@NeraJewelryUA Chances are that Tech Support (if they see your post) would only be able to refer your concern to a specialist.

Tech support, as I understand it, is more about keeping the site functioning so it's usable. You would likely need to speak with someone in Seller Support.

If you haven't yet contacted Etsy via email, click on the Help link at the top of the screen and work your way through the choices until you're able to write a message. There's a 90% chance you will get an automated response back fairly quickly (this response may not have anything to do with your situation). Reply to that message and say you need help or you need to talk to a human. And then be patient. Don't contact Etsy Support again about the same issue; if you do that, you will most likely end up at the bottom of the queue.

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

If you were talking to chat they can't do anything about SS. Can they pass you on to a specialist? Yes but Etsy's general stance is that they do not change SS ratings so I doubt they'd even pass you on. I think they have done things in cases of widespread catastrophic issues (OMG I spelled catastrophic right..) so there is a small chance they might help you if you get through to the right team/person. Therein lies the rub. Getting past multi layers of AI roadblocks that stop you from speaking to an actual person who could actually help. An individual seller's SS rating is way down on their list of concerns. Good luck!

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

@NeraJewelryUA   generally Etsy will not change any stats for SS.

However I suggest you contact Etsy via email, not chat, and explain the problem.  Leave out the SS because that has a tendency to shut them down.  Explain what happened and ask them if they can help you.  That you do not want something out of your control to affect your service level standards.

You did not make a mistake.  This was something totally out of your control.  Just simply do exactly what you are doing as you are meeting Etsy's requirements.

I suggest in the note area that you record what happened.  Keep records so should something come up later you have records to show them what you are experiencing.

Stay safe.

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

@VINTAGEbytheMAGPIE

You can just go in and add the tracking number, but it has to be done before the latest ship time, or the date you updated it is used for shipping, so it will be late
The OP entered the number after the latest ship by date

@NeraJewelryUA sorry looks like you cant add the tracking I'm afraid. I agree with @CraftyCornishMaids don't worry about Star Seller, from experience of having it and not it doesn't seem to make a difference to sales or to customers.

Stay safe x

@CraftyCornishMaids thanks for the reply

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

Thank you all very much for your answers. I'll probably leave everything as is. If after describing my problem the technical support consultant directed me to this forum, then I already understood that this problem is unlikely to be solved somehow.

I don't see any point in writing to them again

Good luck to everyone ^^

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

@NeraJewelryUA   Unfortunately chat has a tendency to send people here when they don't have a solution.  It used to be that Etsy personnel were in the forums  but that ended years ago.  Only the moderators are here.

@NeraJewelryUA Please don't give up - you are in a horrific situation - I think Etsy should at least consider the circumstances here

@FabioMcMustache Is there someone at Etsy who could work with this seller on their concern?

Re: Rating problem due to lack of electricity

I had your problem in the US (California) recently when our power went out after a storm, and was out all day.  I had to take my packages to the Post Office and buy postage there, with tracking, and then I was able to use my cell phone and enter tracking numbers and complete the orders online with the Etsy Sellers App.  If you have the app in your country, you might be able to use the cell phone for completing orders that have been mailed without Etsy labels.  I have a Mophie for a back up battery charge for my phone, also, if I need it.  If you can anticipate electrical issues, just keep everything charged up as much as possible.  One thing that shocked me, when I mailed my packages at the Post Office, was that each one cost me about $2.00 more than I pay for Etsy labels.  So that kinda sucks, but it's worth it to get packages out on time.  Good luck to you, and may the shelling stay far away from you!
