I've been using Pinterest for a long time for the purpose described in the topic.
I always thought, that an outbound click from Pinterest should result in a visit from Pinterest on Etsy.
However, from the beginning, there were huge differences in the statistics presented by Pinterest and Etsy, even more than 20 times.
And hence my questions:
1. Do you have similar experiences?
2. Do you know where this comes from?
3. Is it possible, that pinterest bots boost these statistics?
4. Is a visit to Etsy counted immediately after viewing the site or after a certain number of secs of remaining on the site?
@cindylouwho2 sorry for marking you to this thread, but I want, that you don't miss it, because I really care about your opinion!
Thanks for putting this thought out here. Am also looking for related information.
Great, we need to keep this thread up!
Pretty sure on this, but if cindy responds i'm sure she'll put me right
If for example someone is on their phone browser on pinterest, and clicks an etsy link, and has the app installed, it will open that link in the app. As they are now viewing from the app, it would come under "etsy app and other pages" in the stats, and not from pinterest. But pinterest would still record someone having clicked the link.
This is one possible reason why the stats "don't align".
Thanks @CappuccinoLace
I rather thought it might be Direct & other traffic, because it comes from different domain... However whatever, it doesn't sum either : - (
If it's opened with the app or clicked on within the app, it will come under Etsy App & Other pages Stats.
Even etsy search on the app is under Etsy App & other pages Stats, not etsy search stats.
That visits from the search in the Etsy app, is counted under the Etsy app & other Etsy pages, it's OK. But if you're right and traffic from the Pinterest app, opened in the Etsy app is adding there too, that's odd to me.
On the phone, every click from the outside is opened in the Etsy app.
It's a view on the app, regardless of the source, so yes it all goes under Etsy App stats.
Those that use their phones/tablets and not have the app installed, would show as a pinterest source to etsy link, when opened in a browser.
Not everyone has the app installed, but many might still use a phone/tablet.
You're right, I'm among those many : - )
But still it's odd and distorts the source of clicks.
Anche io sto monitorando questo aspetto..
Ha, so I'm not the chosen one! : - )
We need to hope, that there is someone, who help understand this gap.
"However, from the beginning, there were huge differences in the statistics presented by Pinterest and Etsy, even more than 20 times." - in which direction? 20X more views on Pinterest than Etsy?
I am not familiar with the accuracy of Pinterest stats, but they may not filter out bots. There is also the issue of various devices and browsers blocking tracking now, so some of our views from otherwise trackable sources will get dumped in "Direct" instead of their proper source.
Oh, I meant Pinterest in its statistics shows >20x more outbound clicks, than Etsy, visits from Pinterest.
Like they vanish in the abbys or a black hole beyond the event horizon and only a fraction of them entered another dimension : - )
In the last few years I noticed a huge increase in traffic from Direct & other and a decrease from Pinterest so I supposed that it was not tracked traffic from Pinterest, there are a lot of way to block tracking so you never really know where your tracking comes from.
Thank you, Cindy! I wouldn't be surprised if the differences were twice, three times or irregular, but now, after changing the domain to shopname/etsy.com, it started to exceed 30x and it's permanent, there are no ups and downs.
I only use Pinterest and so far, I think I have changed the links in over 90% of the significant pins and all the visits, shown as from Pinterest, are showing up in "Traffic in your Share & Save links", too.
So it seems to me, that visits from Pinterest are not be included in Direct # other. But maybe I'm wrong.
I wonder if there is anyone who uses Pinterest to drive traffic to a completely different domain than etsy.com and what it looks like then.
I planned to do this once, but unfortunately the plans ended on plans. Unfortunately, there are only 24 hours in a day
@EarthyClayandcraft"... after changing the domain to shopname/etsy.com, it started to exceed 30x ..." It is always hard to know for sure what is going on behind the scenes at Etsy, but it might be explained by the fact that shopname.etsy.com gets redirected to etsy.com/shop/shopname/ and that process may throw off the stats.
We just test it with @heavyistheheart and the result was 1+ on Pinterest and 1+ on Etsy : - (
So we just know more sweet nothing,
I have been on etsy ten years and pin everything...I don't see much reflected in stats. Other social media seems more reliable in this way. I can see FB traffic etc.
So yours outbounds from FB are equal to visits from FB on Pinterest?
Does anyone want to drop a link for a Pinterest item and we can see if clicking on it will reflect in stats?
I saw you love it on Pinterst
Sorry, I'm a moron, I didn't check how many was before.
Please try another
@EarthyClayandcraft outbound I send more pinterest - format is easier in my opinion. But I do not see this reflected in stats.
@EarthyClayandcraft side note beautiful shop!
