Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue on their shop.
Until recently, my product listings showed a clear quantity dropdown menu right on the main product page, front and center — so buyers could easily select how many of an item they wanted to purchase. It also showed how many were available, which was helpful.
But now, that dropdown is completely gone from my listings. To choose more than one item, the buyer has to first add the item to their cart — only then does the quantity selection appear. It’s clunky and confusing. One of my customers even messaged me saying, “Why can’t I buy six of these?”
This is a major downgrade in my opinion. I'm worried I'm losing sales because of it.
I know Etsy does beta testing sometimes — is this one of those tests? If so, I want out. This change makes it harder for customers to buy, and that's just bad for business.
Is anyone else seeing this? If so, have you heard anything from Etsy about it?
Thanks in advance.
It's been like this for years. Anything over $20, there isn't a qty drop down... check your Mojave Turquoise hoop earrings for $3.20... the drop down box is still on that since it's under $20. But yes, this is dumb & I don't think Etsy has ever explained why they do this.
Oh my gosh! Thank you for the explanation. I could have sworn the drop-down menu had been there before but I was just probably wrong. THANK YOU more alerting me that I left a zero off those Mojave turquoise hoops!!!!
If the item is above a certain price point it doesn't show quantity. I put something in my shop announcement section explaining this to buyers:
"If you only see the add to cart button and no quantity is listed, you can change the quantity when you go to the shopping cart."
I had no idea there was a price maximum for the quantity dropdown function. Make it make sense.
How utterly ridiculous this is!! What could possibly be the reasoning behind it?
It's dumb & probably even costs some sellers sales. If I want 2 pillows for my couch, I would move on if I just saw 1 in the dropdown box. I don't even remember when Etsy made this change. It's been years though.
It's a right pain in the a$$. Has been since they started doing it years ago and continues to be an issue.
It was years ago they switched it and when it first happened I was shocked with so many "do you have xx in stock, I only see 1" messages. That's when I figured out 20 bucks or less shows the quantity. Above, nope. I think it used to be 25.00 though because I had, at the time, an item that was 24.00 and it showed how many of that item I had. At least that's what I think I remember.
It sucked then. It still sucks now. I wish they'd show the price and the number available. That would be true transparency.
I'm 100% convinced it cost me sales at the time from those who moved on rather than ask.
I use variations for that reason. Which isn't ideal because it costs more to ship larger quantities but can't use calculated shipping because of that. So if someone orders 15 pieces or 65 pieces from the variations, the shipping remains the same despite being heavier for the 65 than the 15
Had to learn to work around it but it still bites. I see absolutely no upside to the way they have it set up. For a company that is so buyer focused, they make it hard even for buyers. I field several questions a week asking how to order because of those variations. I guess all those extra messages would help if I happened to miss one and drop under 100% response rate.
Some days I just want to contact Etsy and say...
Do Better
But it's way too hot out to be tilting at windmills. ; )
Another one of those senseless moves that is not beneficial and should be put back.. kinda like the recent issue/test of moving the shop announcements from the top of the page to the bottom. I'm not one to frequent the forums, but I've checked lately because of some tinkering nonsense and it seems alot of issues still happen. You can try contacting them to complain and that may help? and/or do what you can to help your shop and business, because you cant count on them to do so.
The Quantity field is not showing up on my listing and it is only $6. There are no variances with different prices.
The Quantity field shows up all the time on a browser and does NOT show up on mobile devices. That makes me think this is a programming bug (CSS issue).
This is super confusing to customers.
I took a quick look at only a few because I'm headed out for happy hour (yay) but I looked at 5 I think and saw that all the ones I looked at has the quantity showing just fine.
Since I didn't want to tank your conversion rate I only looked at a few.
Of the few that I looked at one was your best seller and I did see a variation and see the available quantity of 500
Then I looked at your Etsy's pick and see a quantity of 644
Is it a specific listing that is giving you issues?
