I understand that not showing the quantities for listings over 20.00 is the rule.
But, I simply cannot understand the reasoning for this practice. . . .
Many times, buyers will message to check on quantity; but, I cannot help but wonder how many do not think to ask since I am one of those buyers;-)
Recently, I have had buyers make multiple purchases to arrive at the quantity needed. It is not a big deal to refund for the shipping overage. But since combined shipping is a benefit to the buyer, why not let the buyer see the quantity? Transparency seems to require showing the actual number of an item in stock.
But, again, if someone needs three more cups to complete their set and does not want to bother messaging and waiting for an answer, a sale is lost.
And then the seller must also pay 0.20 x 3 instead of the 0.20 re-listing fee. . . .
New buyers do not necessarily trust that a seller will refund the shipping overage in full.
The holidays are here, why not give the busy buyer all of the information needed?
That's fine as long as you have 5 yards of physical stock available.
Quantity variations is a great way to offer discounts on larger quantities.
However
The root cause problem is Etsy.

again, I do not need 5 yards in stock since the largest quantity available is 2.5 yards and they can only add 1 of that 2.5 yard variation to their cart. And that would be the end of that listing.
I would only need 5 yards in stock if each variation had a qty of 1. Which I do not. The entire listing only has a qty of 1.
And this will be the end of this thread for me.
"The entire listing only has a qty of 1. "
aaaaahhhh!
I thought you had each option with a quantity of 1.
That makes sense now.
So you only have 2.5 yards available.
If you sell the 2.5 yards initially you don't renew. If you sell the 1 or 1.5 yard option, you then manually renew as another total listing quantity of 1, with the other short option of 1 yard or 1.5 yards only, without the 2.5 yards option.
I got there eventually.
But it's still ridiculous that you need to do it to fix Etsy's mess.

Sometimes the buyer wants more then one of something. If they don't see a quantity right away they move on to the next one that has more then one. Besides I work hard on my multiple and I don't like it when I make a lot of something and it looks like there is only one
Exactly!
I have six children with lots of grandchildren; so, when I am shopping at the holidays, I am scanning quickly and looking at quantity.
My fix: I reduced the inventory here on Etsy; smaller is easier and less stress.
Selling higher end things locally . . . life is short. I am back in the Barn:-)
OMG, I never knew this was a thing! Just checked my shop and you are right! What a stupid idea. For goodness sake, Etsy, why do you have literally no common sense?
