Etsy recently deleted the "quantity" drop down box from both of my pillow shops - Pillowtimegirls and Hausofpillows. I've checked other shops in the same venue as mine and notice that it appears to be across the board. Etsy has told me that if an item is under $20 they are no longer showing the quantities available and that the customer needs to put the item in their cart first and then choose the quantity. I've had three customers in the last 2 days email me to ask if I had more than 1 available of the item they are interested in. I am highly frustrated with this change as it makes no sense and the $20 amount seems totally random and arbitrary. If any other shop owners feel inclined to "chat" with Etsy regarding this and put in a complaint it may help. I can't imagine that anyone thinks this was a change for the better.
"Etsy has told me that if an item is under $20 they are no longer showing the quantities available and that the customer needs to put the item in their cart first and then choose the quantity."
It's actually the opposite- if items are OVER $20 the quantity option is not there on the listing page but is in the cart so they can select quantity once they cart the item. This isn't new, it's been like that for over at least a year or two now.
Yes - Sorry I meant over $20 and it has only affected my shop recently. They told me that they are doing this as a test and are getting a lot of complaints about it. Fingers crossed they will revert back to the common sense way of choosing the quantity.
Etsy made this change a few years ago. If you do a search of the forums for "quantity drop down" you'll find threads from as far back as 2020.
It’s over $20 not under. It’s been that way for a long time.
Yes -n I meant over $20, not under. It only started happening on my shop recently so doesn't appear that it was an across the board change. Just like the crazy "reserve" thing - some shops got hit with it last year. They did it to both of my shops in July. It's random.
A workaround may be to add VARIATIONS instead of just quantity - especially for items that are indeed different (ie. Brunschwig Fils Les Touches Pink Fabric - 8012138 - 2 Pieces Available - 32" x 54, 23" x 78").
Your listing shows ADD TO CART, but no drop down list for quantity. I added it to my cart and then the cart shows 2 available.
If you list VARIATIONS for each size option (even if the price points are the same for both), then you will have a drop down menu so the customer can choose which option they want.
That particular listing is a rare bird. Most of my listings are either for just 1 available (as in my fabric listings) but most are for pillow covers of which we have many. I know some people are saying this started in 2020 but not for my shops. It only happened recently. It always had the quantity under the drop down dimension box. I do understand that when a customer puts an item in their cart they can then change the quantity but most customers aren't that savvy and I've had many now emailing me asking if I have more than one available. Also, the $20 price tag is totally random and arbitrary and makes no sense. Etsy has told me this is a "test" so fingers crossed they just put the quantity drop down back on the front page of the listing where it belongs and is only common sense. Thank you for your input.
Oh, how I miss that drop down box!
I have a set of sterling flatware and it's being sold per piece. Someone just asked me if it was $35.00 for 8 pieces!!!! I hope that when it's added to there cart they can choose how many.
Makes no sense!
