Purchased an item and seller closed shop, you can’t make this up

So, I purchased a hutch, didn’t hear from seller, and he (or she) now has an unavailable shop. I am out $350. How does Etsy allow such fraud to exist on their site? Why wasn’t I refunded when the shop shut down. Holy moly.

You can call your CC provider (or Paypal, if that's what you used) and you'll get your money back.

@karaemurphy2323: "Why wasn’t I refunded when the shop shut down." In theory, the seller could still ship your purchase even though they closed their shop. You need to open an Etsy case or start a chargeback with your payment provider.

Re: Purchased an item and seller closed shop, you can’t make this up

Is the shop on vacation or shut down?  You don't know that you have lost anything yet.  This happened a lot during Covid.  Etsy would put shops on vacation that were behind on filling orders until they caught up, or shut some down that had more serious problems.  But many of those people got their order or refunds as the process worked itself out.

As advised above, you can open a case with Etsy (first choice), and you can also do a chargeback with your credit card.  Either one will likely get you a refund if the seller isn't just on vacation to catch up on shipping.
