I received a message from a potential customer. I can read it on my phone, but cannot pull the message up on the desktop. I prepared my answer and tried to send the message from my phone, but received an error that the message was not sent. I clicked to resend and received a red error box: Could not send message. If this keeps happening, contact Etsy Support. I have tried to resend repeatedly. It keeps happening. Etsy will you please look into this issue so I can respond to this shopper. Thank you!
That is possible & I never thought about that. Makes sense because the message no longer appears anywhere. Thank you!
@MyVintageAlcove: "Etsy will you please look into this issue so I can respond to this shopper. Thank you!" Just so you know, even if Etsy Support or the Help Pages sent you here this is a seller peer to peer forum, and should not be considered a way to contact Etsy, if that is your hope (although Etsy moderators do sometimes read and reply to posts).
To contact Etsy try https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?segment=selling or https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?segment=selling#issue_sell_offsite_ads-callback or you can open a support ticket through Dashboard > Community & Help > Contact Us
Thank you for the method to contact Support!
Is it possible the 'buyer' no longer exists? Sometimes Etsy will remove accounts that have been reported as spam or scam accounts. I would follow the link provided above.

Also check your Etsy messages spam folder.
I found a message in my Etsy spam folder that was not spam (and one I'm really sorry I missed).
Guess I'll have to start checking my spam folder daily - makes the spam folder an oxymoron folder.
