Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I went to print out my order and packing slip today and at first it goes to bring up the printer dialog box, but then asks me to save them rather than print them. It was working fine 2 days ago. Now I can't print anything out. It's not my printer, as I can print out other things. It's just here on Etsy.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Make sure the destination in your print dialogue box is to your printer and not "save as PDF."

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

My printer dialog box won't even come up. It comes up with save document box. That's the problem.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I also tried from a different computer and a different printer and it just keeps bringing up the save as dialog box, rather than the print dialog box. Help!!!!

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Since you can only save it, maybe try saving it and then opening the saved document to print it?

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I had this issue a while ago and I was able to create an account with pirate ship a website to import (you will see an Etsy import Header) the label from Etsy and I was able to print it. The prices are the same as Etsy labels. I never did find out what the issue was but it did correct itself. Pirate ship will add the tracking to your account but double-check that you can always add it under the symbol that looks like a timer for completed. Good luck.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I'm not trying to print labels for shipping, I'm trying to print out the order sheets and the packing slips.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I shouldn't have to save it in order to print it. Sorry, just very frustrated with this.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Although you said you tried another pc, this seems like a browser related issue and how it handles applications. By chance did your browser update recently?

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

My Shop is on Vacation (seasonal).  But I wanted to try to print both an Order Invoice and a Packing Slip. I went to a past Order.  I didn't get the "Save" prompt; hey printed as they should.  That doesn't help your situation.  And if my Shop were open, I don't know that I'd get the same results.
(Desktop computer, Chrome, Windows 10).

My browser did an Update last night.  When I clear cache/cookies, it's usually very fast.  And it was, except the wheel was spinning for about 2 minutes, so I knew the browser was updating.  After it was finished, there was a blue tab which said "Relaunch".  I clicked it and it said, "Chrome is up to date." Then I closed the browser.

Wish I could help you.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

It's probably a setting. Settings seem to magically change on their own. I print receipts through FF but have the PDF open in Adobe instead of FF but once in a while it diverts to FF to open them so I have to go into FF and change how I want them to open.

What browser are you using?

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I'm using Firefox. It usually opens up another tab in Firefox and then I just print. Now it's asking me to save. So I have to save them and then open them and print them. How did you change how they are to open? That's what seems to be the issue with me.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Print PDF From the FF tab

  1. CTRL+P (or click the 3 lines in the upper right and select Print)
  2. Check that in the print dialog box the destination is set to use your printer and to Microsoft print to PDF

Check settings and/or Open/print PDF in ADOBE instead of in a FF tab

  1. From FF click 3 lines in the upper right
  2. Select "Settings"
  3. Use the "Find in Setting" search box at the top and type "PDF"
  4. A selection box expands for all things PDF related.
  5. Go down to "Portable Document Format (PDF)" and you will see an option to the right to select how you want PDFs to behave in FF.
  6. From here it might have gotten set to Save and you can try selecting to just "open in Firefox" or "Use Adobe Acrobat (DC)". Try the opening it option first if it was on "save" and see if that acts normal for you. If you don't see Adobe as an option then you probably need to download the reader and add it to your computer.

FYI, I always have PDFs generated through FF open in Adobe and print from adobe on my HP printer (I have Chrome set to print on my Dymo and use that for shipping labels) anyway, a few days ago I had to go in and change the FF setting since it flipped itself to FF tab instead of Adobe; it's probably caused by an automatic update by FF since like you, it wasn't me that made any changes.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Its a setting you did because it is all working fine for us. Check around, look under shipping settings etc

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I find it hard to believe it was something I did, as I haven't touched settings in over a year and one day it was working, and the next day it's not.

In situations like this, trying another browser is sometimes effective.

Try unplugging your printer and plugging it back in.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I've even used a different computer and a different printer and still the same results. I haven't gone into my browser settings in over a year, and it was working fine one day, came in the next day and it's not. This changed overnight while I was sleeping.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I find that automatic update are usually the cause of such problems here. It even changes security settings I have. I woke up one morning and had to confirm opening every photo I have on my computer.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

I am in the "it is a browser issue" camp. I have had issues with Chrome previously, Try another browser than Firefox. Doesn't matter if YOU didn't change/do anything..those things change/update on their own and generally overnight.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Finally got it figured out. Firefox had changed one of my settings for pdf's to save instead of open in another tab. Thanks for everyone's inputs.

Re: Printing Orders and Packing Slips problem

Does anybody know how to make my shop default to print ONLY the packing slip and not the invoice? I can't find this option anywhere and have to click to uncheck the invoice box every time. Thanks if you can point me in the right direction to fix this.
