My internet is out and hopefully will be back tomorrow afternoon (upgrade to faster internet and sent a bad modem).
I’m racking my brains trying to figure out a way to print labels without the internet. I usually airprint from my iphone to a wireless printer. I can connect my printer with a cable to my imac, but without wireless service on the imac, it doesn’t matter if it’s connected with a cable. Duh.
I haven’t tried setting up a hotspot with my phone and my ipad, because that’s over cellular, so why bother.
Many ideas how to print using 5g? Thanks!
Take your phone near the imac so it's easy for the computer to "see it" and then click the wifi symbol at the top (or wherever it is on an imac) of the screen. If your cell service offers a hotspot for your phone, you should see it as an option in the wifi menu.
If you don't see it you'll need to do some research and figure out if a. you have a hotspot, b. how to turn it on in your phone, and c. how to use the hotspot with your imac.
You have internet on your phone? Use that by going into the website. From there if your printer is connected you should be able to print labels.
Or are you saying the internet is out for even your phone.
I can't think of any other way other.
It’s a wireless printer. To print from Etsy, it has to find a printer. I thought about connecting the printer to my imac, but the imac can’t connect with Etsy without internet.
I have internet on my phone. I supposed if I could connect my phone to my printer it might work. But how would you do that?
I went to Fedex, thinking I could use their wireless print service, but the labels have to be downloaded as a pdf. I can’t find anyway to convert a label to a pdf.
I would use the phone for a hotspot on the iMac. That's what my husband does for work when we lose power.
purchase the label on your phone, save as a pdf, transfer to imac connected to printer.
How do you save it as a pdf?

This happened to me last winter when my internet went out for a few hours.
I downloaded the pdf of the label to my phone, then plugged the phone into my computer and transferred the pdf, then printed.
Of course my internet returned 2 minutes after I did all of this.
You should be able to turn your cell phone into a hotspot. Go into settings, network/wifi/internet. Turn that on. Depending on your phone, it probably comes with a generic password which you can change immediately or just work with the temp one.
Do note however, that some phones may ask for information on the device you want to connect to your hotspot. This keeps your phone's hotspot from becoming a free hotspot to anyone.
Then connect your imac/ipad to this hotspot, your new internet access. You'll need to go into the tablet's settings, network/wifi & enter the hotspot password, etc. You should now be connected to the internet & can access your Etsy shop.
You say you can connect the printer to your imac with a cable, so that would be the easiest solution.
Using your phone as a hotspot will eat up data simply by being on so do remember to turn it off. And yes, the communication probably will not be a fast but it should work.
