Last week I reported a bug where if you use Etsy’s picture editor to alter a photo which has variations attached the links to those variations are immediately broken. I have found another bug to do with pricing changes reverting back to the old prices spontaneously. I don’t know if this bug has already been reported? I don’t know if these bugs are related in any way ?changes to the listing form.
I have found in the past 2 weeks or so that pricing changes (I used bulk edit to percentage increase the price of all my bird pins approx 3 weeks ago) suddenly disappear and the listed prices revert to the old prices. From what I’ve worked out about 10 of my listings are affected - some built on the old listing form, some built on the new one. They revert back unpredictably and without warning. I noticed it because I noticed one or two birds which were not very popular had sold 2 or 3 times in the past 2 weeks, so was looking closely at the listings to see if there was a spike in views or something. When I then looked back on my other orders I noticed a significant number of recent orders, including one order of 18 pins of a popular pin, had been bought at the old price. Understandably, buyers seemed to be going for the obviously cheaper pins.
I corrected the error in the affected listings using bulk edit and price increase, but annoyingly 2 days later the same happened again with a number of sales at the old prices. Not all the same pins had reverted back, but no new ones had. I corrected the error again but again multiple times since it spontaneously reverts back after about 48h, always affecting the same 10 or so listings.
I attempted to report it to Etsy last week but unfortunately I was interrupted by personal circumstances. So I left a half report that I need to pick back up, but it’s clear now that actually this is not a one-off issue. I will have to audit all my recent sales carefully to find which orders were affected and report this so I can be reimbursed the money I lost. I am also constantly having to check my listings for price reversions so I can correct them before buyers buy them.
I just wondered if anyone else has experienced the same problem and if there’s a solution? I want to avoid having to rebuild the listings completely as they include my best selling pins which have very good and long history of sales and reviews.
I noticed some of my pricing was recently automatically changed again when a seller placed an order. These were not new listings. Pricing was changed, and Etsy removed an available option while adding another that hadn't been available for 4 years that had been deleted. This isn't the first time I've had this happen. It is now a periodic problem that started when Etsy updated variations. I've sent Etsy screenshots of the issue and asked for help multiple times without resolution. The problem seems to be intermittent and isn't happening to all sellers. Etsy rolled back the newer updates to variations because this was a found issue happening to some sellers. It seems they are unable to solve the problem.
I just went through all of my listings again. Fortunately, Etsy only changed nine of them this time. Last time it was a much larger number. Still, it is a problem. My Etsy shop now requires mico management so I'm slowly downsizing the number of listings in my shop.
(Sorry busy day!)
I’m sorry this is happening to you too. To my knowledge this is the first time it has happened to me.
Can I just clarify - when the pricing is changed on your listings is it reverting to a previous price you had set, or is your pricing changing completely randomly? Also - had you edited your prices using the bulk edit feature?
Mine is very firmly reverting to the last pricing it held just before I changed it 3 weeks ago. Prior to that they had been at that price point for about 5 months.
Your account suggests this might be a wider problem. I think it’s worth warning folks to check their listings - especially if they have changed prices recently using the bulk edit feature - in case it’s happening to them too… if it hadn’t been for some things which rarely sell selling for a change I would never have thought to look at the details more closely which led me to notice the price an item was sold at was actually wrong…
@KanjaniCraft No, mine is not reverting. It's going up 12% on the lower option. The middle variation option has been removed. The larger added variation is listed for less than I can make it for. Even when I listed these years ago, they were never listed at the assigned low price point. Regardless, the materials are no longer available so I can't sell them. Our issues with the pricing are different. But it's likely happening for the same reason. And yes, I believe it's a wider issue. Etsy is aware of this problem. They have stated that a "handful" of Etsy sellers were impacted when they removed the updated variations. I don't believe they've figured it out.
This only happens intermittently to my listings with variations. My listings without variations have been fine. At first it was the bulk of my print and tile listings. Now, the problem keeps happening with my tile listings. But my prints have been fine since I've corrected them. I'm hoping they stay this way. It's an odd problem that's likely a programming glitch that Etsy can't figure out. I hope once you correct your pricing, it sticks for you.
@KanjaniCraft @NancyQstudio Maybe its part of the price testing/experimenting they perform.
I've had pricing revert back to the old price and then had to re-edit and save to the new price.
@SugarTaffySoap Thank you for that suggestion. Unfortunately, this is a different problem. It isn't a test. A handful (Etsy's wording) were impacted with glitches to their variation listings when the new variation options were rolled out. Etsy might have thought the problem was fixed when they resended the variation upgrade. But that hasn't been the case for those of us affected.
If you have variation pricing set within a listing, then any bulk price editing you do to that listing will make ALL variation prices within that listing change ... everything will have the SAME price.
@TBQSC The bulk edit function works perfectly when I've used it! You are correct. But in this case, individual listings are randomly changed without seller involvement. I've sent screenshots to Etsy and had exchanges with them about it. Etsy has attempted to help. The issue was verified as a glitch. However, there has been no resolution. On a good note, it is happening less frequently. It is still problematic.
@NancyQstudio Thanks for this info - thats really helpful to know. Yes our issues are different but interesting how it’s only listings with variations. All my listings have variations so I hadn’t realized that could be part of it.
@SugarTaffySoap I’m sure you are checking the listings that reverted but I have had some listings revert back 5-6 times each in the past two weeks, so despite “fixing” it I end up having to keep a close eye on them and I fix a few listings every day. Very frustrating given some of my best sellers are included.
