For about a week, I've been seeing old convos in new orders by repeat customers. The convos from previous orders show in each new order as if they were linked to that order. It's very confusing.
Hey There!
Starting June 30th, we combine multiple message threads between users into a single message thread for any messages received on or after June 30th. Messages received before June 30th will not be combined. The only exception to the single-thread rule is when a buyer reaches out via the Help With Order flow, at which point a new thread will be created and clearly labeled as such.
Thanks!
It's the "new improved" system,
because people were complaining that they didn't want to lose their star seller, because they had already replied to someone
so etsy's linked them all together - by popular request
and it's a right royal dogs breakfast
Not a big fan... it does nothing to help keep things in order.

You can read all about it in the Announcements.
"Based on your feedback, we recently made it easier to stay on top of your messages. Now, messages from the same buyer will be combined into one thread—so you’ll have fewer conversations to keep track of, and can easily track your relationships with buyers.
We’ve compiled some of the top questions we’ve heard from the community around the new experience and answered them below:"
I received a convo from a previous Buyer last night, and while it didn't have the blue banner for first-time contact, it still showed at the top of my new messages on laptop and the Sell on Etsy app - as well as the new (blue icon) mobile Seller app.
@PillowDetails If I understand your post correctly, and at least on desktop, the message count on the inbox tab indicates the number of threads with an unread message not the number of unread messages."New" messages is an existing thread will still appear at the top of the inbox list.
Caution: if the person sent you two "new" and unread messages in the same thread, and you only look at the second one the entire thread is changed to read --- so you might miss the fact that there is a preceding unread message.
I'm sure it's confusing, but any new / recent unread message is bolded - always has, until it gets clicked on. Maybe it's just my browser?
@PillowDetails What I am trying to say is that if you receive two messages from the same person in the same thread before you have read the first one, reading the second one will mark the entire thread as read and you might not even realize that there was another unread message unless you scroll up through the message thread.
